Clean trim tabs on 2008 Sea Ray 290

My trim tabs are unpainted and have a lot of residual rust, and other accumulation. What can i use to clean them. Would steel wool be too abrasive or possible some type of compound?

P.S. is the trim tabs made of aluminum?

I wouldn't suggest steel wool on aluminum. The steel wool will leave tiny steel fragments which will get lodged in the surface of the aluminum and rust. Perhaps Red ScotchBrite Pads?

The Works toilet bowl cleaner. You can get it at most dollar stores and it does an awesome job cleaning props, tabs and any other underwater metals.
