I have a 1996 Sundancer 270 with the stock Clarion cassette stereo. I don't know the first thing about wiring. What are the chances that someone makes a stereo that matches the wiring completely. I know this is too much to ask because nothing is ever easy. I would love to be able to unplug my old stereo from the wiring harness and plug in the new stereo and it would work perfectly, including the wired remote. I'm upgrading because I would like a single CD player and an input for my Ipod. Is this even remotely possible. :smt021

Need to know the head unit and wired remote but here is a place to start..........

Go to the "marine remote cross reference chart" and see if you remote supports newer models. Installing a new wired remote is straight forward if needed.

Also under "source unit harness applications" it lists which harnesses came with which model. They may even make an adapter.

Good luck.....

I did this exactly because as you I wanted to plug and play. I searched on Ebay and found the updated version of what I had. I think my original was an XMD1. And I bought an XMD5. All wires plugged in even the remote. I also have sirious radio and that works as well.

display remotes usually have problems. did you have a remote with display?

I ended up buying a sony CDX M30. I figured I would just sit down and figure it out. It ended up being really easy. The wiring harnass did not fit but all the wires were the same color. So I clipped off the old harness, and wired up the new one. After reading it, I realized there were only 11 wires I had to wire. 8 were color coded pairs (Speakers) a black for the ground and a red and yellow for power. Everything matched. Anyone attemping it, don't be afraid, it's an easy job.
