Is the Clarion radio on a 2008 185 Sport capable of receiving Sirius radio? I understand that if so that I would need to purchase the receiver module and antenna.

If not, which Sirius capable head unit do you prefer? It needs to be somewhat water resistant since its in the boats "glove box".

I don't think it is, but I'm not 100% sure. IIRC, it will say "serious ready" on it. Or, if you pull it out, there may be inputs on the back to add a stand-alone receiver. In your owner's pack, there should be the special "keys" for pulling the radio.

If you have the CMD5 or the M475 then, yes, they are Sirius-ready. The M275 is not.

Here's a link to the 2008 Marine product catalog: http://www.clarion.com/us/en/files/pdf/catalog_2008/MarineAudio.pdf

Otherwise, look up your model number on Clarion's marine products website in the support section:

If it is Sirius ready, the installation is very simple. An external tuner is connected to the head unit by one cable. The tuner is also connected to the antenna. They typically ship an automotive (magnetic) antenna with the Sirius tuner, so budget for a marine antenna.

And if it's not sirius ready you could always use a regular automobile type of setup. It'd be a separate little box and you'd have to avoid getting it wet, but it'd work just fine with any existing radio head unit. The upside is the radio could be removed and used in your car or at home when it's not on the boat. Not just sitting their in the boat, being yet another paid subscription, one you can't use during the rest of the time you're not boating.

Now, if they made a sirius interface that integrated a portable unit with the radio I'd buy one. But since that'd put them at risk of turning three subs into one (boat, car, house) I'm skeptical it'd ever get marketed.

Have you looked into the Stilleto? You can install a dock in your boat, car and home, as well as use it portably. It works well in major metro areas, where it picks up the OTA broadcast.
