Ok, all you Stereo guys I need some help. Just to sum it up I'm going to replace my 2006 240SD Clarion CMD4 unit with a reconditioned CMD4 unit.

If you remember a couple of weeks ago, the display went out on the CMD4 head unit, but still could get sound and control it via the remotes. Well I lost sound the other day and the Amps protector light is now on. The Amps manual say there is a problem some where so it will not allow the amp to power up. Since I have a known problem in the CMD4 unit I figure that is where the problem is the Amp protector system is sensing.

I'm thinking it will be a simple swap. Pull the old CMD4 and then slide the new CMD4 in it's place. Hook up the wires back into the same location they came out of on the old CMD4 and I should be back in business. Right:huh:

Am I missing any thing??

Any tips or tricks???

Help

Thanks in advance.

chuck,
I moved from the xmd2 to xmd3 to cdm4 and the wiring harness is all the same. I have had to since replace the cmd4 (lighting strike) with another unit. It is a pretty easy swap. remove antenna, pull wiring harness, remove aux/bass/amp connectors if present, remove bracing screw, remove screws from front and slide the unit out. reverse process for install. Might want to mark which wires are which on the rca connectors for aux/bass/amp so as not to mix them up. I can reach mine from underneath so it was easy. I don't know where yours is located!

Thanks - That is what I was looking for. Yes on the 240 it looks like it is going to be a very simple swap. I was just afraid I was missing something. You know when it looks to easy something always seems to pop up and bite you in the @ss. :)

Did your protection light on your amp come on when you got the lighting strike? If I remember correctly it was not a direct hit but close. Something else went out on your boat too.

Side note on the wiring. I noticed the wiring is extremely tight. It appears that all the extra wiring is pulled into a bundle and attached to the boat with a screwed tie strip. I thinking I need to redo the wiring bundle giving it some slack while I'm replacing the CMD4 unit. Any tricks or comments?

just don't use super glue!

After Mike's (Tutle Tone) and Gerald's (GJarrett) comments in the other thread, I don't think I'll ever look at super glue the same. The thing you learn on this board.

Well the replacement went smooth. I've got sound again.:smt038 For some reason I'm not getting all the Sirius channels:huh: Spent over an hour with Sirius support (What a joke).:smt100 I tried the reset button on the CMD4, but that did not do it.
