I'm wondering what peoples thought are on the using the new CJ-4 oil in place of the CI-4 oil. Specifically, as I understand it, the new oil is required by the new emissions controls and the diesel particulate filters in the trucks now being produced. It may not be so good for pre-2007 engines. For example, the detergent capacity may be reduced. Here are some links .

The old oil is made for my Cummins ISB. The new oil is made for the 2007 on engines. They say it is backwards compatible, then say you may need to recalibrate (read shorten) your engine oil change interval based on oil analysis.

But, I am now burning the new ULSD fuel, and have been since about Jan 06. So maybe it is valid that the engine oil now has less sulfur to combat, so the new stuff may be better in at least that area, since it is better matched to the fuel now in use.
