We don't want to buy any dirty oil from Canada but China is buying it up by the millions. Thye're not just buying the oil but the companies that mine it.

Not only are they buying dirty oil in Canada they're buying shale oil in the US.

No worries though they want us to build the pipeline to the gulf so they can transport it to Asia.
Great job Obama. Refuse to use oil on our own continent and China will drink every drop then use it to kill us.

We are building our own demise on the altar of ecoisim. MM

I know this was posted else where*thanks Dadubo* but thought it was fitting...

Would love to hear what Com has to say about this. I'm sure we are just over reacting again...

We have our own lunatic fringe up here in Canada who would prefer that we continue to buy "clean" oil from "clean" governments (Saudi Arabi, Venezuela, etc.) rather than expand our oil sand and shale oil developments. This way we can continue to contribute to the growth and spread of terrorism, of the suppression of rights of the citizens of these countries and the torture and killing of innocent people throughout the world rather than supporting our friend and neighbour to the South and contributing to North American oil self-sufficiency.

The problem sounds so easy to fix when you put it that way!! I would love to know the strategy we North Americans have by financing the Middle East!!!

Where are all the nay sayers? I thought they would be all over it. Guess you guys are just haters and early to post your thoughts. Eager to kick our current administration when ever you can.

OK. . . . HERE WE GO!

GAME ON!!

Ecoism? Is that even a word?

But I get your drift. It boggles my mind how a country that gets 1/2 it's electricity from COAL can be so anti-nuclear.
It also boggles my mind that the old GE MK 1 reactors are still in service. Wadda ya mean you need POWER to cool the reactor after a SCRAM (Fukishima)? That is a fundamental conceptual flaw in that generation of unit. There are a dozen ways to correct that if you thought about it (in a new plant)

Don't get me started on the cost efficiency (or environmental efficiency) of solar or wind power. 1 MW of power from a wind turbine 150' tall. How can that POSSIBLY make sense on a *national* scale? Want to save some birds? Outlaw cats.

I think everyone should have a coal burning furnace in their home. Then we can have a real chat about CO2 emmissions and clean burning fuels.

Global warming? Rising Sea Levels? Read about Lake Agassiz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Agassiz

Words of truth there. But don't forget the other huge problem: If the President who has a (D) affiliation states that it is raining outside, the legislators with a (R) affiliation will declare that statement as proof the President to be a communist jihadist and that in fact it is bright and sunny. You can't lead these kind of people. All you can do is take them out back and. . . . .

Of course, the press, will report the two opposing positions (it's raining) (it's sunny) with equal vigor. Need to take them out back and. . .

Which friend and neighbor to the South are you talking about? Surely, you are not talking about Chavez and Venezuela, right? It is only a matter of time before that guy gets the Noriega or Kadaffi treatment.

I can't comment on the Shale oil stuff: Except that it probably is very inefficient and dirty business. There is a reason nobody has developed this until now. OF COURSE you would prefer sweet Arabian crude. I think those people should put a coal fired furnace in their house for a while before commenting further.

Sorry. Reading my above statements, I am clearly not writing from hating left today.
I am still trying to figure out what the heck the meaning of the last sentence.

Also, I don't have a WSJonline subscription, so it is hard for me to talk to the topic on this one.
Maybe I am still in a stupor after the Iowa caucus's and Romney's emphatic 8 vote win.

This may be a good day to trot out my "Bus out all the Non-Citizens" stance.
(where you must make $25K per year to even qualify as a citizen -> or we round you up and bus you to Mexico. Or Venezuala).
Maybe add the coal fired furnace to the citizen-ship requirements.

Don't forget, I have access to the buses...we can ship them in "luxury"....

I can't believe the 8 vote win either! That is by far one of the most obvious of "set ups" I have ever seen!
WE ARE IN DEEP DOO DOO....

If you try to get a home loan these days you will sign a Patriot Act form which states that you're NOT a terrorist and you're not sending money overseas to support them? WTF is our government thinking?

Had to sign one when I bought my boat because I put more than half down...in cash!!! It took 3 salesman four different times to count it :smt043

This is truly stupid. "Dirty Oil" is a cutely contrived catch-phrase contributed by the same paraoid dip-sticks that came up with "Occupy Wall Street".

From this afternoon's Globe & Mail (Canadian National Newspaper)

Nearly half B.C. residents support Northern Gateway: poll

14:21 EST Thursday, Jan 05, 2012
Vancouver — Nearly half of British Columbians support Enbridge Inc. ’s proposed Northern Gateway project, according to an Ipsos Reid poll conducted on behalf of company.
The survey, released Thursday, suggests 48 per cent of B.C. residents back the controversial $5.5-billion project – 14 per cent of those strongly. On the flipside, 32 per cent – 13 per cent strongly – oppose it.
About 20 per cent of respondents said they were “undecided” on the proposed project.
Northern Gateway would ship some 525,000 barrels per day of Alberta crude to the West Coast for export to Asian countries.

Essentially the Alberta Oil Sands are going to be producing. It just comes down to where the oil goes. It is stupid that it is not going to supporting North American self-sufficiency (as previously stated).

BTW Comsnark, when 'Someday Lady II' referred to our friends to the south - he was referring to you. We're not big on Chavez either...

Paul

The little dirty secret of this administration is that they want high oil prices to further their green initiatives.
Right now the unemployment rate in North Dakota is the lowest in the nation due to all the wildcatting in oil, these are high paying jobs and we are not shipping oil revenue to our friends in the Middle East. There is a concerted effort to shut down a new method of oil drilling in the industry called "fracking" The environmentalists claim it is causing earth quakes and polluting ground water. The last leg of the Keystone pipeline ( Canadian Tar sands ) is being held up by Bummer because it crosses a aquifer in Oklahoma. The corn farmers are doing more environmental damage to the aquifer with their fertilizers and pesticides but you won't hear that from the liberal media.

Here a little secret ...... Buy a 250cc scooter that get over 90mi's per gal. :smt038.

I was under the impression that the aquafir issue was Nebraska related. There, the Republicans were putting up the stink (not against the pipeline, but against the route).

http://www.npr.org/2011/11/07/142020522/nebraska-may-play-key-role-in-canada-pipeline-battle

It was my impression is that the Obama delay was to allow this issue and few related issues to get sorted out (i.e. reroute so the project doesn't get canned).

A good strategic idea (oil pipeline from tar-sands) can become a tactical disaster (contaminate an entire states water supply) if not executed properly (don't route the pipeline over an aquafir)

A good strategic idea (nuclear power) can become a tactical disaster (3 reactor meltdowns within a 1/2 mile within 16 hours) if not executed properly (don't require power to safely secure reactors after a Tsunami!)

(Yes, those were meltdowns. One main difference between Chernobyl and Fukishima was the time lag between earthquake (which triggered automatic shutdown) and the Tsunami (when the facility power grid was washed away). Those minutes of cooling were vital. Yes- I am oversimplifying. Not clear how badly cooling was compromised by the earthquake itself.)

They have an easier plan already. Get a bunch of credit cards, max them out, send the money, then default and let us worry about it later.
