Chicago skyline behind us

All he did was point out the irony of such a beautiful city from the water being turned into a chithole for the past 20 years. It's was a great city. Lived there. Had my business there. And when we grew up and moved to the suburbs to have a family, would go back frequently. Then one summer, things changed. Roving bands of thugs began accosting people on the beach and along Mich. ave. Shots rang out at the July 3rd fireworks, so young mayor Daley cancelled them going forward. The city has gone downhill since.

Here are some photos from last year inside the play pin, I heard that area is closed to boaters this summer. How can they dictate where you can drop anchor and swim once in the lake?

We Michiganders had it rough at the beginning of the season and many are still struggling but can Pritzker or Whitmer govern where boaters can drop anchor or swim? Boats in our area are rafting up and partying and local police and USCG don’t care.

The playpen was full 4th of July weekend...

This forum is so entertaining, I thought the same negative things never being there other than transiting O'Hare. I thought better of posting my musing though since I live in the SF Area and occasionally get some great shots of the skyline to share and would not welcome the common criticism either. Those of us that live near these once Iconic and wonderful cities are just sick about the decay but seeing them from afar in just the right light brings back fond memories of yesteryear. Keep sharing these great pics and ignore the sad saps that can only denigrate your post.

I think that’s a bit harsh.... The pic is lipstick...it’s gorgeous but there are bad things going on behind it....some of us are pissed off that a city we love is being destroyed... this is an emotional time.
i wouldn’t put anyone down for being emotional about it.... you can still look at the great pictures... just don’t ignore what’s happening behind them

Warm summer day 2 miles off Chicago Harbor.

And here we go...

I work in that city and it's pretty nice. Yes, there are some problems on the south side and there are problems like other big cities, but overall it's a great place.

Bulls&$@. I just moved out from there to Florida. Many others have moved out of that god forsaken state. Lightfoot is an awful hypocrit and lacks leadership. Pritzker is a friggin moron. Your taxes are high and going higher. The state is bankrupt. They have billions in unfunded pension liabilities. The city is out of control w rioters like every other democrat run city. 60 shootings last night 8 dead. This is a typical weekend across Chicago.

But hey, I’ll miss Portillo’s.

You can have the rest.

I agree that it can't be ignored but sometimes it can be left lye for a minute and take in the view. There is no going back, and looking forward is just too damn depressing.
I think my point is, so many times what a poster intends a post to offer is positive and enjoyable only to wonder down a political toilet bowl. As I originally pontificated though, it is always entertaining, kinda like a train wreck.
Cheers

So I guy who lives in a city and enjoys a beautiful day on the water with his family simply wants to share a few pictures so others can enjoy them has his thread completely hijacked by the same unrelated commentary that's on a dozen other threads in this forum.

Start a Chicago, SF, Portland, Dallas, etc., etc. sucks thread and let the rest of us simply enjoy the OP's moment.

You guys win.... all we got is beach over here :)

I love the Michigan lake Michigan shoreline. Small town harbors, beautiful beaches doted with an occasional quiet nuclear plant. LOL

Just fresh air! No big city sounds and smells. With Covid even the airplane traffic is quiet.
