Going to Manhattan and trying to decide which of the two marinas to stay at. We would like to be fairly close to Times Square. Would also like to be at a marina that has restaurants or activities within walking distance.

I know about the bouncing....I stayed at the Newport Marina a couple of years back.

Any information about the docks, service, facilities at the two marinas would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

You couldn't pay me to slip in Chelsea piers, don't know about North Cove. Liberty Landing is good.

I agree with Mike. Chelsea piers has no wave protection at all, and I've only seen big yachts in there.

Have you considered the 79th St Boat Basin (http://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/marinas/10). Restaurant on site, about 4 blocks from Central Park, and good cab availability. No reservations (first come, first served) and limited depth (last 3 or 4 slips on each pier have adequate water); but some protection from the waves.

I've also used Lincoln Harbor (http://www.lincolnharbormarina.com/) and taken the light rail and Path or the ferry to get to the city. Next to Liberty Landing it's the calmest.

I would stay at Liberty Landing, there is a ferry that will take you accross the river to the Finacnial District. There is no bouncing like stayin on the Hudson. I have stayed in New York many times and Liberty Landing is the best. Liberty Landing is cheaper than Chelsea Piers as well.

Liberty Landing is the best option.

I have reservations at North Cove marina. It is in Battery Park City. I wanted to be in Manhattan, and Chelsea Piers does not sound too inviting. North Cove is a mega yacht marina....should be some cool boats there. Hope they don't block the sun!

Ohhhh, North Cove, I didn't know the name of that marina. Yeah, all you have there are big honkin' Yachts and little bity tinie rental sailboats. Be careful going in and out, ferries whip by there and throw mean wakes. How much $/ft are they charging you at that marina?

I've stayed in North Cove over this past Memorial Day weekend. They advertise to be 5 star marina. I'd give them 2-3. It's rocky but not as bad as 79st, which folks describing to be pretty bad. Facilities, don't expect much (no showers and bathroom is in some strange location). They charged $6 per ft. I think you only pay for the views. Local traffic will wake you up pretty early.

I stayed at North Cove for two nights. Things got a little rocky on Friday morning at about 6:00AM...not as bad as I expected though. The marina was pretty empty. A 120 footer pulled in on Friday. Not many transients.

Some guy left a 55 Azmut there on the 4th of July and has not returned. The lines are chaffing, and the fenders are quickly losing air. The marina had to remove a ladder which was gauging scratches into the hull. The power cord had a ton of marine growth on it and was floating in the water...what a shame!

Anyway, if you want to spend time in Manhattan, I think this marina is fine. Taxi stand right at the corner. Subway is about a 4 block walk. No facilities.

Although you pay $6 per foot, you do not have to pay the fare to cross the Hudson if you stay on the NJ side. As I recall, that can be $10 each way for a family of 4.

Bought a "Rolex" on Canal Street
