Hi All,

I have already been posting on here for about a week or so but thought I had better formally introduce myself.

My wife and I live in two locations in Australia, one is alice Springs and the other is Port Stephens.

We live and work in Alice Springs but holiday and have a home in Port Stephens. We are in the process of purchasing our first Sea Ray which may or may not happen due to the results of the survey. It needs both outdrives replaced.:smt009

However there is another SR 370 Sundancer in a nearby marina that looks promising if we walk away from this current one.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul and welcome aboard. Best of luck with your purchasing process. I spent a number of years flying C-130's in out of Alice Springs between Auckland and Singapore. So I guess your not going boating on the Todd then?.

Welcome down under! Nice to have an International flair to the site...

No I reckon you are right about that LF, still we had nearly 1.5 metres of rainfall during 2010, the previous year we had a grand total of 62mm. :)

What was the purpose of the C-130 flights, were they MAC flights or civilian based?

New Zealand Air Force in support of the battalion we had stationed in Singapore at the time. I also had dealings with the MAC channel flights when I was at Operation Deep Freeze at Christchurch. The C-141 Starlifters used to fly from Honolulu to Christchurch then to Alice Springs (in support of Pine Gap), RAAF Richmond just north of Sydney then back to Christchurch and Honolulu or a variation of that route depending on tasking.

Hey Terry we have similar backgrounds, I was at RAAF Richmond, also on F/A-18's out of RAAF Williamtown. Spent some time at Ohakea in NZ.

When I was in the Royal Australian Navy I was based at NAS Nowra and I was attached to VC724 SQDN which had the Skyhawks which were sold to NZ.

Welcome to the site, heaps of useful info on here.
Good to see the Australasian contingent is growing :smt001

We used to do a lot of support flights for our 75 Sqn (Skyhawks) including Nowra, Williamtown and Amberely. We used to deploy them to Singapore and Malaysia as well stopping off at such salubrious places as Biak in Irian Jaya. I know our guys enjoyed pitting the 'Hawks against the RAAF F-18's which was a little one side in some respects but I understand we had some ability to turn inside the F-18's which kind of evened things up a bit.

We re-established an old wartime Sqn and split off some of 75's aircraft to it. No 2 Sqn was based at Nowra and practiced anti-shipping roles against RAN 'targets'. They in turn got to practice their Warfare Officers in anti-aircraft defence systems against a small but fast targets. Ahhhh...that was a lot of fun...
