Hello all! I've recently acquired a new to me 1999 340 Sundancer with original electronics. They are R21XX radar, raychart 691xx and raynav398. Obviously I'm scrapping all of that but I'm curious what others have done with the existing space that currently holds the R21XX screen. I'd like to go as large as I can. Any recommendations?

I went with a Garmin GPSmap 9" with new Fusion stereo and remote and 210ais VHF. All works great together via NMEA2000.6326921_20170808130309999_1_LARGE.jpg It was the biggest I could fit without doing some serious fab work. I really like it. Before and after pics:IMG_4371.jpg

Since adding an additional MFD, I only use my Fusion remote for volume. It's a very expensive volume knob! I wonder if a 7" Garmin would fit on the flat area?

The 7" will fit the flat area but just barely. I wanted to add one there, but it only gives you about 1/8" up and down to play with so I decided not to try it.

My 2002 340.
Removed the Raymarine VHF, and gps. Installed Lowrance link 8 vhf in old Gps location, and cflush mounted lowrance HDS9 Gen3 in flat. All on network, to fusion stereo in cabin, and smartcraft gateway for engine data... loving the set up.

Can you post a pic?

I had a pic and then phone messed up. But I have a pic of just the GPS. Will take new helm set up pics this weekend

Looks great!

With the new NMEA2000 my lowrance is my full controll over the stereo still located in the cabin. Fusion FTW!

Works areaome and no extra. And my new VHF is located up where the old GPS is. I will get a new pic this weekend. I also added a flush mount stainless cup holder where the old clarion remote was. Love it.

I got the Fusion head unit as well for my stereo. No need for a remote at the helm anymore. Great idea adding the cup holder to that spot.

Before you plunk money down, I'd strongly think about what features you want in a plotter. Specifically, will an all-and-only touch screen interface work for you? Do you ever boat in the rain? If so, a touch-only interface will suffer (to test, put a couple drops of water on your iPad or phone screen and try to use it). If you boat in anything other than flat water, trying to pinch to zoom or to point and select that specific chart icon or button can be a challenge. Not impossible, of course. But stressful. For me, I wanted another control option, so I went with the Simrad NSS series. They have touch AND a few buttons with a rotary encoder for easy scrolling. I almost always use the touch interface, but there are times when touch is just too problematic and I'm glad to have the other option. Just food for thought.

The other suggestion: While the above posts are great for getting ideas, make sure you take your own measurements to see what fits. Pull down the specs for the models that interest you and measure your helm locations before you buy anything.

Sounds like solid advice! For the most part we cruise the lake and anchor in the cove to float as we melt the stress away. I’m on a small lake and if we are being honest I don’t truly need a plotter. I would like to upgrade to something that would show VV. I might just go with the mobile app. I think those on this forum who can go in the ocean are really lucky, but the maintenance has to bite.

Thanks!

Thanks!

i used the Navionics app on a smart phone and tablet for a few years....works great, especially for inland lake boaters.....

I did the same thing with my old Clarion remote. That sure was fun making that hole 1/4" bigger!
