We’re thinking to do something different for our next vacation. So, we’ve decided to charter a catamaran at BVI. My friend had participated in flotilla 2007 and had very nice experience at BVI. We’re looking to operate the boat by ourselves. Can anyone recommend a reputable and inexpensive charter company?

Thanks,
Alex.

By Catamaran: You mean a sailboat, right?

Sunsail is pretty good at this sort of thing. I have chartered from them a few times.

The Moorings operate the largest fleet in the BVI. They also bare-boat charter power cats through their Nautic Blue division.

Both operate out of Tortola.

We've done both crewed and bareboat charters in the BVI and Exumas - great time ! All chartereres will require your boating resume before booking a bareboat charter.

Moorings - Been there, done that. Their Cat fleet is expanding very nicely. With a 40+ foot Cat, you get 4 staterooms, 4 heads, and a salon. The bigger ones add Crew quarters in front of the salon.

We chartered the 6200 with the Moorings and would definitely recommend the Moorings and the boat. Don't dismiss the crew too quickly. We're experienced operators and enjoy running our boat from TN to the Turks, but we really appreciated the crew. It's a whole different vacation. I didn't have to worry about mech failures, anchors, etc. and my wife didn't have to worry about meals, etc. We were both able to spend a lot of time together and with our kids.

Great that for your suggestions guys. I really appreciated.

Alex.

The key to successful Cat chartering is having enough couples to split meal duties. Last major trip, each couple only had to do one lunch and one dinner. You don't want to depend on shore dining every night. . about half the meals is just right.
