Charleston to Myrtle Beach W Pictures

Forgot about that one. Haven't tried it yet. For pics., just

If you ever have the chance, I highly recommend trailering your boats to the PCB/Destin area.

SeaRide,

It's tough to say. I would place Cooper River to Chas. and Chas to Myrtle Beach about equal. The trip to Beaufort would have to be third.

With Charleston and Myrtle Beach as destinations, you have alot to do and see at each one.

In Myrtle Beach, we docked the boats at Barefoot Landing Marina with all the shops and restaurants right there. We stayed at a hotel two miles away right by the mall with Bass Pro Shops. We went to see a show (Carolina Opry) Saturday night which everyone enjoyed. We did have to use a taxi, but everything was close by and I don't think the fare was ever over ten dollars.

With Charleston, you have all the rivers and islands to explore and there is a lot to do in the city as well.

The trip to Myrtle Beach is a much longer trip than the Cooper River trip, so I don't think I would run to MB if I was just going overnight.

The Beaufort trip was fun, and we will do it again sometime, but there's not a lot to do in Beaufort.

I'd like to make a run from Beaufort to Savannah sometime just to complete my exploration of the South Carolina coast. Maybe next year.

Bill or Paul,
Where did you put in at Charleston? Address would be good so I can Mapsource it.
Thanks

Thanks Paul, Found it. Dumb question - Looks like a public ramp, Any problem leaving your trailer and truck there for the weekend? Where do you flush the engine when you pull it out?

I have never had a problem parking there for the weekend. As for flushing the motor I do that when I get home. You have a little further to drive than I do though. For as little as we run our boats in salt you should be ok until you can get home.

Are you planning a trip?

I'm always dreaming/planning for the next trip. As to flushing the motor I like to do it ASAP since I'm looking at a 7+- hour drive home from Charleston. Do you remember any car washes around the ramp or on your way out of Charleston? I've had good luck being able to use a hose at a car wash to flush the engine.

As for the track I have not put it on mapsource yet. Heck I can not even get my pictures to post correctly. Guess it must be a canbote curse.

This trip is perfect for this new website I recently found, to let you upload your GPS track, with a story, photos and descriptions along the way. I used it on our last worthy trip for the first time here:

Patuxent River Day Trip

It was really easy to use and configure.

Anyway....great trip, great pictures!

+1, worth a one day visit though. Kind of like going back into Mayberryville......

Big Charleston fans here...we vacation in Kiawah once a year.

We have our eye on a for sale boat in Charleston. We would need to ship or cruise her home (VA) so I may call on you in the future for some advise.

Paul and One More Day
Somehow I just caught this thread.
Great story and pictures.
Nice run. Thanks for sharing

Nice pix Pau! I remember that trip, makes me want to go south this year.
Glad to see you had a good time.

Wow I just caught this thread too. Great report Paul

Now that ours has a brand new engine and outdrive we'll be looking for an adventure next year and want to head back out to the coast.

Searay Paul...
I would like to plan a SC coastal trip for a weekend next year. There seems to be an interest but I dont want to start a thread too soon and that interest die! I have suggested Georgetown><Myrtle for thee reasons. 1) Its a shorter and easier trip to fit into a wekeend than Chas ><Myrtle, 2) thus it would be more economical for all and prompt a better turnout and 3) I know that area well. It would be nice to have a good sandy raft up spot for the day like at Keowee/Labor Day weekend(that you coulda made if you had not been WORKING-lol). Theres a place called Sandy Island along that route that would be good for that. Open to any other suggestions though.
What are your thoughts on a proposed route and raft up spot? Did you see anything along the way between Chas and Georgetown?
Anyone else...chime in!

Question - Is there any good places to spend the night (Hotel/Resort/Condo) with dock space in the Georgetown area? That way if some people wanted to make it a long weekend they could put in on Friday say in the Charleston or southern port and run up to Georgetown. After spending the night in Georgetown could then meet up with the rest of the group.

Bill, What marina did you stay at? It has been several years since I have made that trip north from Charleston. We typically go to Beaufort, SC since the City Marina has a childrens park at the end for the kids to play. My children are 6 years and 18 months, any recommendations for marinas in the Myrtle Beach area. If not it is back to Beaufort in October/November. r/dave

Yes. 2 options in Georgetown for marina with overnight. Georgetown marina has a Hampton Inn and then there is a B&B or Inn right on or close to front street right down from a smaller marina with transient slips. Dont remember name right off-have not stayed there.
