Trailered the boat to Charleston on Thursday and did a run to Beaufort yesterday. Great weather and good times. Hundreds of dolphins, gators, turtles. Great folks at Charleston Harbor Marina.

Did you get any pictures of the Beaufort marina? I love that place. We had the good fortune of living there for 6 years. Went to the blessing of the fleet every year we were there. We made the trip down the Broad river and cut across by Paris Island to the Beaufort river many times. Charleston is a great city too. Been there many times and have never left disappointed.

Unfortunately, we forgot to bring the camera. Definitely as nice marina.

Did you leave before or after they renovated the waterfront back in 2007ish? Its really sharp looking now. The marina is also been getting little improvements here and there. They just put in some nice access gates to the docks and they have plans to fix up the ramp area (its a tough ramp to use) and the hourly dock pier.

Did you go via the ICW? If so, how did you make out getting from the Ashepoo to the Coosaw in St. Helena Sound. That pass can be real tricky at low tide due to shoaling. I think I've seen it down to 2-3 feet in spots recently.

Yes, we went via the ICW. We planned the transit through the Ashepoo about an hour before high tide each way. We had 8-10' of water under us. With a 5' tidal range I can see how that area could get really tricky at low tide.

Hey Jim, that's a nice trip.

The Carolina Boaters club, did a trip from Charleston to Bulls Island this past weekend also. If you like to trailer boat, we do quite alot of trips through out the year. the CB'ers are a bunch of folks from CSR, however we didn't want to single out the type of boat someone had. So we "branched out" but not to far out. To find us we are on Face Book as a boaters group. Check us out.

We have been down there a few times since moving to WNC. We were down about 2 years ago and they had made many improvement to the ground including the kiddy park down by the bridge. I have pictures on another drive and will post some once I find them. Back in the day I owned a heavy equipment repair company, Field Repair Services on HHI and my business partner owned Southern Waste out of Ridgeland. Many changes including the 4 lane all the way to HHI.

Man, the memories all come back. Thanks for the post. I have a great story about a county police officer if you'ed like to hear it.

That sounds like a great trip. Exactly the trip I'm planning to make with my SRV225 as soon as the weather cools off a little. It's actually why I bought the boat in the first place, ICW cruising north/south from Charleston.

About how long did it take each way?? Any suggestions or recomendations for the trip??

thanks

It took about 2.5 hours each way cruising at 28 kts. Make sure you have up to date charts. We used both the garmin chartplotter and the Navionics Ipad chart. Pay attention to the tides as the lows can be extreme in some areas. We timed the Ashepoo Cut so we passed through well before high tide in case we got grounded. Take some basic precautions and you won't have any problems.

I am heading to Beaufort tomorrow - by car. Once I get there I do plan to spend a day on the water and take a run from Lady's Island Marina to Edisto, via the ICW/Ashepoo Cut. If anyone is out, I'll be the little 175 buzzing around.
