"Moon Over Morris" Charleston Rondevous with The Carolina Boaters group will be coming up Aug 12-14 weekend. Anyone is welcome to join us. This group originated a few years ago from friendships made off of ClubSeaRay! We will overnight at Sunset Cay Marina Friday night which is in Folly and is walking distance to the beach and "downtown", Sat morn we will head to Kiawah beach until about 2pm, then we will head over to anchor for the afternoon and night right out from the Morris Island Lighthouse. There is a full moon that night and if we have clear skies, we should have photo ops as the moon rises right over the lighthouse. Sunday is...whatever comes. So far coming, we have Early Times, Hey Babe, Moonshadow, Islandhopper00 and Heavenly Daze. If you want good times with great friends, come on!

If you can come early, there is talk of a raft up in the Folly Beach, wal-mart parking lot thursday evening. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we won't drag anchor. haha
Good job Kes, Oh should we mention the low country boil friday night on the docks? I know I can't wait for it.

Do you have a float plan on a map? Getting back "up"by the lighthouse from the ICW side is extremely shallow?!? Would love to see your full route too. Might be able to join you all.

We don't have a float plan on a map, but several of us have been the back way to the lighthouse many times. I have the track on gps, but pretty much know it by heart. We came back at low tide a few weeks ago and there was only one place that was nearly too shallow for my boat. We got through, but for this trip we'll plan to go at mid tide or higher. Anyone that would like the track from Folly Beach to the Morris Island lighthouse, pm me. And if you'd like to see the rest of the route, I also have the gps track for that too. Just let me know. We'd love to have you join us beachcomersc, it should be a great weekend.

It's been years since I have traveled the back way via boat. I draw 36", and don't want to get near anything shallow. I remember 3' in some of those curves...

Sadler. Where are you slipped these days? Still at waters edge?

I bet you could make it at high tide, but I understand. Maybe you'd want to join us for the time at the marina and the trip over to Sandy Point on Kiawah Island? We'll anchor off the beach at Kiawah, dinghy in, and enjoy the great beach. By the way we'll have several dinghies available to get you and your crew to shore if needed. I'm officially still at Riversedge, but a couple who are members of the CB'ers have moved to Sunset Cay at Folly Beach, and it looks like I'm about to follow them there.

Just realized you are a gasser group, could you point me in the direction of the secret diesel Carolina boaters group! (-;

BTW... Have dingy, will travel!

Oh it is, there's a story there... Hope you never have to write a check to Marsh Marine for service. Good company, not at all cheap!

Oooooo, big diesel boat!

Sadler, you sure HB won't get jealous and try to take a bite outa ole beachie. frayed knot is still kinda scared of HB. FK still has the scratch to show for it! hahahaha

beachcombersc, I say welcome, welcome, welcome the more the merrier!
What marina are you slipped in?
I trailer mine. I need the freedom to move up and down the coast, to visit inland lakes and rivers, to get to south fla and the Bahamas, the ability to be foot loose and fancy free.........uh, well, ok my boat isn't really big enough to slip it. haha

Anyways, welcome aboard! Mike

Judi of "Moonshadow" wanted me to post our plans here in case anyone else wanted to join in the fun!:smt038

Moonlight Over Morris
Ok...here's the plan!
So far we have 6 boats (11 ppl) for Fri evening at Sunset Cay with 5
boats going to Morris Island for Sat night. Kes heard from someone on
Club Searay so there may be 1 more boat. I've reserved your
slip...requested all on E dock. You can arrive anytime Fri. We'll get
the party started w drinks & appetizers around 5:00 followed by the
boil. I thought it would be easier if I purchased the food for
boil....1/2 lb shrimp for each from Crosby's fresh from boats $8-12 per
lb depending on what size shrimp they catch this week....corn,
potatoes, sausage. I'm guessing it will cost around $6-8 per person.
Kes, Janet, Carrie & I will bring side dishes/dessert...Kes is making
slaw & 2 pies. Sadler, Bob, & Mike could bring appetizers.
For early risers Sat morning...breakfast @ Lost Dog around 7...go early
to avoid crowds. We'll leave the marina by 9 and head to the north end
of Kiawah known as Sandy Point to spend the day...low tide 2:25pm...
great day for swimming, walking, shelling n biking on beach. We'll plan
to leave Kiawah 4:00pm for Morris Island...keep your fingers crossed
for a clear night w lots of stars n beautiful moonrise over lighthouse.
Dinner sat on boat...whatever you bring. Jerry & I will have steaks n
potato from Costco...fillets....all meat no fat 11.49 per lb. If you
want me to pick one up for you just let me know. We'll need to come
back through the creeks on sunday before 11:00am or after 5:00pm. I
know several of you want to stay at Morris on Sun until the incoming
tide.. 5-6pm. allowing roads to cool, eat dinner before heading home.
We'll work out details later in week.
My suggestion for those of you trailering boats would be to use the
Folly Beach landing less than a mile from marina....low tide Fri
1:36pm. You'll pass a Piggly Wiggly w gas station on right before
coming onto Folly where you can stop for fuel. Morris & Kiawah are only
a short distance away so you won't need much fuel....Sadler estimated
maybe 30 gals w generator running Sat night.
If you have a favorite dish you want to bring other than what I
suggested please let me know or if you don't want the boil ..that's
fine too..just say!
Looking forward to seeing all of you...this should be a great time if
we survive the heat!!!

Just was kickin the idea a joining you all for some parts of your trip. Was wondering if anyone knows the vertical limit of the bridge toward the lighthouse?

They said it looked to be 10ft. There is an outside slip available for you at Sunset Cay Marina if you want to join us for Fri night for the lowcountry boil on the dock.

I was afraid of that... I don't think I can fit. I will take some measurements in the morning. As far as the slip, thank you, but if we can't get to the lighthouse then we may need to pass. It's a timing thing.

Cross your fingers!
