Anyone know anything about the Chas Aqua or going to this years event? Looking for local boaters to network with for the event and a lock to chas trip also. Coming from north of Chas, what would be a good location to put in for the aqua? It is July 26 at City Marina.

We live in the Charleston area and will be going to the Aquapalooza. We went last year and...well...it was OK, but much less than we expected. I spoke to Sea Ray of Charleston this week and they said that this year will be the same as last year. Last year we arrived early and it was pretty much a gift bag consisting of a T shirt, coozie and some sort of blow up float. They had 4-5 Sea Ray models to view and their owners and salespeople were there greeting customers. They were grilling burgers and hot dogs and I think there was a live band.

To us, what was missing was any sort of attempt at a boating event / day on the water. I'm about as extroverted as humans get, but unless you strike up a conversation with another boater, it was mostly an environment where you docked your boat, walked up and had lunch and then.....well.....left or just sat on your docked boat.

When I see the way that Sea Ray advertises the event, I picture being out on a sandbar, island, lake with a high energy (or at least some energy) ambiance. It still was OK and we are planning on doing it again hoping that there is a different energy this year. We'll be in a 220 Sundeck with black hull named Aloha Friday. As to your question on where to put in, I'm the wrong guy to ask as our boat is in dry storage and we don't own a trailer. Others here are better to help you in that department.

SD,

Try County Farm Landing on the Ashley. It's next to River's Edge Marina, formerly know as Duncans. Take I-526 to Leads Ave. (I believe) just past SR of Chas. on the left and follow the signs to the ramp. The landing has plenty of parking, dock space and has enough room to launch 3 boats abreast. Though most of the time only two can launch at once.

Looking at putting in either at County Farm on Ashley or Bushy Park on Cooper. Are either of these places at least "considered"safe to leave the truck/trailer overnight?

Also, any suggestions for a day rondevous since it looks like the aqua event will be ...quick. lol

Assuming my local Sea Ray dealer can find time to fix my power steering problem that I called in about 2+ weeks ago, we'll be at the Charleston event. Don't get your hopes up too much for it. Last year was kind of a disappointment and they told me its the same event this year. Don't mean to be pessimistic, just realistic. Our boat is in dry storage on the Ashley River, so I am not the best person to reccomend where to put in. I saw some recent posts on that so if you do a search, you'll probably find some ideas.

Thanks Aloha Friday. At least the free shirt and burger will counter the gas$$...not! No hopes here. We will make it a fun day somehow regardless of the "big event". Figure somewhere fun to go explore or cruise. Hope you get your steering fixed. Was looking foreward to meeting you guys.

Sweet Dreams, check the tides for the times when you plan on launching and loading if you plan on using Bushy Park. I understand the water depth in the channel leading to the ramp is about 1.5' at low tide. If you get stuck in that mud at the wrong time, you're not going to come out anytime soon.

County Farm landing would be good. Wappoo Cut and Remley's Point are also popular, but they can be extremely busy on weekends.

I spoke to the dealer today and the service manager said he had 80 boats that he was trying to get in for service. At $100 per hour labor, my mind tells me that they could hire an additional service person with that backlog. I have a good feeling that we'll be up and running by then. In that case, we'll meet you for that free burger and then if you like we can show or point you in the direction of some cool places to go in the area.

Any news on boat and will you be able to make it???

Hey there -

The boat was delivered at 4:45PM today and we are all set for the "event" downtown. We should pull up around 11:30 - 12 noon. If you see us there, please stop by and say hello. If it is like last year, we probably won't be there for more than an hour as nothing was really happening.
