:smt021 OK it looks like I need some electrical equipment.

As it goes, I have been advised to get a charger and new batteries.

Now, not knowing toooooo much about the charger, I need some hand holding.
The charger has to be a "convertor / charger". I have a breaker switch on my panel that allows the charger to be turned on and is labeled as convertor. I assume that this allows 110v to be turned into 12v while charging my batteries and running all my 12v appliances?.?.

Next I need some batteries. 2 to be exact. I have a dual bat switch, so I suppose I would need 2 of the same.

NOW FOR THE DIFFICULT PART:smt018
It all must be inexpensive. I don't really know what the convertor/chargers go for, but I "figure" about 100-200$ area. Batteries I know are expensive, so I suppose a Walmart Deep cycle marine battery will suffice????

Any ideas and input would be greatly appreciated. Also, if U have any used charger/convertor (that works) I'd be interested.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Batteries are not too expensive if you go with flooded cell. Expect 3-4 years from them if properly maintained. There are other types which require no maintenance and last longer, but they are also more expensive.

There are 3 types of flooded cell: starter, deep cycle and dual role. Starters are meant to provide a lot of energy to start the energy, but not so good at providing power while at anchor. Deep cycles are meant to be used while at anchor. And you of course know what the other does... a bit of both.

On a dual battery setup, you may want to consider one starter and one deep cycle. Others will provide other recommendations.

My boat has 2 starter batteries, but I rarely used them w/out the generator and charger/converter running, so they work OK for me.

For the converter, make sure you buy a marine unit, dual bank, and correct amperage depending on your boat's size and amount of electronics.

I have a Guest Blue Water 20Amp Dual Bank and I'm very pleased with it. Keep in mind most (all?) battery charges today are intelligent and adjust the amperage according to the demand and charge of the batteries.
