Getting ready to do some boat projects before boating season begins. I think the seat heights are too tall on the front seats of my '06. I would like to get a little lower for windshield protection and comfort. I was wondering if anyone has tried cutting down the pedestal. I haven't tried taking anything apart yet. It looks like the bottom of the pedestal is pressed into the mounting base. I'm wondering if the top portion, which has all the adjustment hardware, is removable so the pedestal could be cut down about 2 inches. Anybody tried this?

Just loosen your tensioning knob (black knob) and you can pull the seat right up and off.

Thanks. Any suggestions on the best method to cut down the post? I will probably leave the base and post mounted in the boat. I'm thinking a sawsall or skill-saw.

Well, it's aluminum, so it won't take much effort. Use a fine-tooth blade. Keep the blade level. You may or may not need to come back with a sanding block to make sure the top of the tube is level. Also, be sure to try and eliminate sharp edges as they will wear away the plastic "cup".

Thanks for the input. I put some aluminum railings on my home deck last year. I cut the pieces with a carbide toothed wood blade on a miter saw. It made really nice cuts in the aluminum. I figure a steady hand with a skill saw might do the trick on the seat posts.
