For those of you in the area, appreciate any guidance - I will be picking up the "new to me" boat Thursday, heading down to Long Island, starting in Lake Champlain. I have received some suggestions on marina's for overnight, etc - realizing that since the season has really just started for the lock system, want to make sure I take on good fuel. I will be starting with full tanks up by Burlington, VT and running, hopefully all the way to Schuylerville Basin on day one. They have diesel fuel there - any thoughts on if I can top off there (which would then allow me to make it down to around Haverstraw on Day 2 on that tank of fuel)? Not sure if I need to be concerned about fuel sitting all winter in the canal system so early in the year, or after 2 weeks of traffic I should be OK. My other alternative would be to top off before lock 12 at Whitehall (which would probably add around 140 gallons of fuel), and then I could make it through the entire lock system on that tank, and find fuel somewhere around or south of the troy lock (where there is likely more activity early season) to top of again? I will make sure I add Diesel treatment in either case with each fill up. Any thoughts are appreciated. Russ.

I would bring extra Racors just in case, check to see if the PO stocks some on the boat otherwise go get them. I wouldn't leave on a trip like that without filters.

ps. Take pics for us along the way.

Coeymans is about a 160 mile run from Burlington, they have Valvtect. Half of that distance will be slow, you should have plenty of fuel to there.
watch out for logs, this time of year is the worst for debris. +1 on the extra filters and the pictures. Have fun and be safe.

A very short distance from Coeymans is Shady Harbor, also with Valv Tect and a much simpler approach to their fuel dock right off the main channel. Several large yachts have passed through and taken on diesel in the last few weeks so the fuel has been cycling through. Also a good stop for lunch (or call ahead to the Boathouse Grille and get it to go). And you can certainly make it there from Burlington without topping off.

Thanks all for the advice / info. Closed today on the 48. Flying up to vt in morning to provision her and plan on being on my way south first light Thursday morning. Hoping weather cooperates on Friday so I can keep on schedule. I will post progress on way down.
