Or a device that you could deploy that would stop you from drifting any further inland. A shark tank proposal perhaps? If only someone would invent a gauge that tells you when approaching shallow water. Possibly with an alarm.
But I guess we are decades away from that technology.
Possibly put someone on the bow with a lead weight on a string; but alas, I am dreaming of future technology.
Yea - those are big anchor systems - most hydraulically operated and require AC power. However regardless there must be a release to drop the thing per ABYC.Great question @ttmott It was asked why he didn’t drop anchor. I’m assuming that it’s because his generator was down? One would think that would need to be bypassed as well for emergency purposes?
That had to be an "Awwww Shit" moment. If he was by himself......that is a feeling of helplessness and doom.I was talking to someone who knows about that boat and what happened. It appears from what he said is the fire system discharged and shut down all of the engines and generator and set the boat adrift. The report was the captain couldn't get the engines restarted. The question I have is - why didn't the captain bypass the system? Maybe the fire systems on those big boats are more complex than simply bypassing like in the smaller boats.
... I also got the impression he did get at least one of the engines going which was how he was able to drive it onto the beach bow first.
