Cetol or Teak oil?

I picked up some of the natural color, put one coat on today, and am very happy with the color! I bet it really looks nice after the next two coats are on. How many coats do they recommend for the first time? My eyes are so bad, I cant read the print on the can! LOL Tough getting old, actually I think its just my eyes that are old. Thanx for all your guidence. D

I put three coats on to begin with.

I just re-finished the swim platform & bow pulpit on my ‘78 30’ Weekender. Like many of you I don’t care for the shinny varnished look. But, being basically lazy I settled on a compromise. Any Teak exposed will get the Sikkens Cetrol Natural Teak Satin finish. Teak in the cockpit area, which is usually under cover, will just get oil.
I have owned the boat for 3 years and have done nothing for the teak which had been neglected by the previous owner.
1) The teak had an old coat of either Cetrol or varnish. So, the first step was removal of what was left of that finish. I used BIX TUFF-JOB with a putty knife & paint scraper. The BIX worked very well.
2) Then I sanded with a belt sander, & by hand between the slats, with #80 paper.
3) Next was the TE-KA formula A & B cleaning process. This worked very well & really is the easiest part of the job.
4) After waiting 2 days for the teak to dry I sanded with #120 paper.
5) Wiped clean with Interlux 216 Thinner.
6) Now the Cetrol, 3 coats waiting 24 hours between coats.
I’m very pleased with the results!
I used most of the TE-KA (1 qt. each) & 1 ¼ Qt. of Sikkens.
