Ceremony for Renaming Your Boat

I know there has been some threads on naming boats and I came across this.

Have you purged your boat's old name for the Ledger of the Deep?:huh:

Luckily the last 2 boats we've bought that were used never had a name but if they did I would definitely go through the ceremony. I like to keep Poseidon happy.

I did the whole ceremony and it was a blast. My GF and I sent out invitations with a portrait of the boat on the front (she's an artist). We had lots of food, drink and bubbly for the ceremony. Probably had about 40-50 people there. I highly recommend it and so far the gods of the deep have not been displeased.

The former owner of the boat had the name removed at the boat yard before I bought it, and I made sure everything on the boat with the former name had been removed. Be sure to looks for receipts, etc. hiding in a drawer or something!!

We did the same...it gave us another good reason to have our friends over for a party...:smt038

Same. Remove everything with the previous name. I had the new name put on the boat without my wife knowing, then I put plastic over it telling her that I was working on removing the old lettering and that it looked really bad.

We de-named the boat (1 bottle of expensive champagne), then began to re-name the boat. The winds were kicking up. The waves began crashing on the break waters, and lightning/thunder were crashing arouind the sky. We used one more bottle of expensive champagne, then we drank a bottle of the cheap stuff (kidding (sort of)). It was memorable.

Now someone just needs to set up website describing this ceremony and I'll finally have all the motivation I need to name mine. Though it'll probably still go nameless once she finds out what the ceremony is. :grin:
