Big 4th of July around the corner --- has anyone been through Center Moriches this year? Heard it was rather bad getting through (more shallow than last year). Any input? How is the route out to the ocean? Plan to head out Moriches and in through Shinnecok. Any input on heading out of Moriches this year is appreciated.

    Happy 4th!!!

I went in and out of Moriches Inlet last year, however, I won't attempt it this year given the LNM issued by the USCG earlier this spring. You can check with Moriches Sea Tow for the latest information.

Read the LNM on another forum and it seems that the State Boat Channel in Moriches is impassible in several spots in anything other than a small outboard and the USCG is basically judging the inlet itself to not be navigable.

I went out Moriches Inlet last Friday about a half hour after high tide. Just as last year, angled towards the Inlet from buoy 15 and once past the jetty turned West for about 1/4 mile then South for a 1/4 mile and then East to Montauk. Lowest water I observed was 6' below my sounder or 8' from the surface.
