CBD--anyone use it? Does it help?

Too true. Must have certified analysis. Around here pretty easy to find CBD products with certification to have 0% THC.

Ahhh, I guess I should not have typed that while on the Oxycodone. It was steroids, not silicone that the doc gave me the shot of. My bad.

We are "fortunate" to live in a pot-legal state and we've been to the pot shop that Wyrman mentioned. We also have been to one in Seattle. For me, until this sciatica hit, the visits to the pot shops were mostly to see what they were all about. I bought nothing in Seattle, though my wife did, and we both got some CBD gummies at the shop in Finley near Wyrman's residence.

The shop in Seattle was much more professional in appearance than the one locally. In the local shop it was like a step back into the 60's. Everyone had a beard, all were wearing t-shirts with some kind of pot logo or design on the front. It just felt like I was in a low-budget business, though that was not reflected in their pricing.

I have been twice to a chiropractor and I'm feeling a bit better. I have another appt tomorrow. I have gone to him for over 20 years and we've gotten to be friends as much as a professional relationship. I asked him about the CBD and he's a firm believer in the medicinal benefits.

Thanks for your responses. I'll continue to do some research on this. I'm not interested in the THC side of marijuana; getting high has never been my thing, except for getting there from being on the boat. That's my "high".

I've had a bad lower back since my early 30's....probably late 20's. It got pretty extreme by the time I was passing age 40.
My lower back...multiple disks are shot from L2 all the way to S1. L2/L3 pretty back, L3/L4 worse, L4/L5 really really bad, and L5/S1 also really really bad.

Basically...your disks should be like double thick oreo cookies. Mine are like potato chips. Not much left them. Bone on bone in some areas.

Many doctors have told me I need to get a "fusion" of my lower spine. I've refused to.
About 8 years ago I did have to cave in and get a discectomy of L4/L5...and it did alleviate some EXTREME pain for quite a few years.

But in the past 2 years things have crept up on me again.
I've been to many different chiropractors, been through tons of multiple times per week treatment over many years. Insurance doesn't cover all of it soo...yeah, can't keep doing that! Have an inversion table at home which helps a bit.

So yeah, I can keep typing up pages about lower back problems and treatments..but I'll focus on CBD.

IT HELPS ME.
Takes the "edge" off of really bad days when my face is beet red from the pain and I'm ready to blow up from the pain.
I have a topical cream, and I have an oil to take orally. Some days..my pain-o-level shoots to 10 out of 10! And I can stand some pain. But this is my every day.

IMO, a lot of the medical industry passes this off as snake oil..because they're not making a killing on it like "big pharma".
Or there's that "taboo" thing about CBD...people get scared of it because its related to marijuana.
I don't have anything against pot, so I don't have anything against CBD.

I'm sure there's a lot of poor quality stuff out there "on the internet"...so don't just try one and judge it as useless if it doesn't work.
And...add to that, everyone is different, and some people react different than others. So..it may help some more than others. Or..some may need to take higher or only need lower doses than others.

But for me...CBD "takes the edge off".

I've been in the one here by my house twice. The first time it was so crowded I didn't wait.
The second time, I really wanted to get the gel, so I waited, the pot smell in that place was really bad, I couldn't hardly stand it.

A couple of months ago I pinched my sciatic nerve and have had some pretty severe pains in my hips and down my left leg. I went to a doc-in-the-box in the Phoenix area and he gave me a shot of silicone in my left hip and some HUGE Ibuprofen pills.

Worked a little but not fully.

Went to an ER, got an X-ray and some other pills, worked but not fully.

Went to an MD and got some Oxycodone. Worked for about 4-5 hours but I didn't want to get stuck on those so I quit taking them.

I have an appt with my MD in WA in a week, but between now and then I am looking for something to relieve the pain. Aleve works for a while but not fully.

I've given some thought to CBD, a Hemp derivative. Anyone here have any experience with it? Dosages? Has it helped? It's available on Amazon in many forms and many dosages.

Can anyone help sort this out? Anyone have any experience with it?

Skip the drugs if you can, they might mask the pain, but do absolutely nothing to relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve.
I’ve got sciatica too, along with two herniated disks and arthritis in my lower back. Skip the drugs if you can. If it’s really bad I take some ibuprofen for a little relief, but avoid the Oxycodone. While the Oxy masks the pain, I hate the way it makes me feel.
When my sciatica gets to the point where I can barely walk, usually after either polishing out the sides of the boat or working for prolonged periods in the bilge, physical therapy gets me straight again.
I do back exercises and stretches I learned in PT daily to try to avoid really bad attacks, and believe it or not I’ve found Yoga to be very helpful. I started a weekly yoga class at my gym about a year ago and it has really helped. It involves some great stretches and core strengthening, both of which greatly help sciatica.

Go check out the shops near you. If you can, find a medical related one -- they may be better versed in the medical benefits, dude. The admiral gets little CBD pills -- It's like a box of Tick Tacks. She'll also did gummies and a syrup before she found the pills. She says it helps with her leg issues.

CBD may potentially help alleviate pain associated with sciatic nerve compression, but it's important to consult with a healthcare professional before using it, especially if you're taking any medications or have any underlying health conditions. If you decide to try CBD, make sure to choose a high-quality product from a reputable source, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for use. Start with a low dose and gradually increase as needed, and monitor your symptoms carefully. In some cases, CBD is really the best for pain.

The major difference between a drug and a natural remedy is that in most cases the drug interactions occur in minutes where natural remedies are weaker, take longer, and are difficult to source.

Sciatica and any pinched nerve or compressed vertebrae will always respond to anti inflammatory remedies. The various remedies will however be limited because the underlying problem persists.

Many former professional athletes and coaches today preach rehabbing, therapy, pain management, even stem cell therapy which I am a believer in, over surgery.

Once you succumb to surgery everything becomes a crapshoot.

Good luck.

I totally feel you on the sciatic nerve pain. It's no joke, man. Personally, I use CBD all the time, and it's been a game-changer for my pain management.
CBD, derived from hemp, is a non-psychoactive compound, so no worries about getting stoned. It's more about the medical benefits, which many people overlook. It's like a hidden gem in the cannabis world, bro!
When it comes to dosages, it varies from person to person. I'd suggest starting low and gradually increasing until you find what works best for you. Amazon has a bunch of options, but do your research and read reviews to find a reputable brand.
If you're curious about the medical side, check out the all-in-one medical cannabis kit. They've got some solid resources and info at releaf.co.uk.

This thread is four years old…… what did you end up doing GFC ?

I’ve had one surgery so far and countless injections. CBD did nothing for me. THC is a different story. I take a 10mg gummie before bed and it does work. The only problem is that the rules are the same as alcohol as far as driving, operating the boat, etc. You can get a DUI on medical MJ, so discretion is required.

Just had another injection a week ago and it didn’t take. Pretty sure the pain management doc is going to refer me back to then surgeon for a fusion.

Some folks find it really beneficial for managing their symptoms. It might be worth giving it a shot, but definitely talk to your doctor first. They'll have the best advice tailored to your situation. As for dosage and forms, it's probably best to follow the instructions on the product or ask someone who knows about CBD. By the way, I'm new here on the forum, but I hope this info helps! If you're interested, I stumbled upon a CBD vape pen on this website https://www.trythecbd.com/products/cbd-vape-pen/. However, make sure to do your own research and choose a reputable brand.
Can anyone say spammer?

Don’t do fusion…. Physical therapy worked wonders for me 30 years ago for two bulging disks ….. at least try before fusion…. The assholes told me fusion was the only way….. funny they are also the surgeons….

I finally succumbed to the surgeon's suggestion that my only solution to chronic back pain was fusion after 25 years of chronic, sometimes debilitating, back pain. When I talked to my GP he begged me to see his chiropractor before I agreed to surgery. I reluctantly agreed to go. The chiro quickly determined that the cause of my bulging discs and sciatica were my hip flexors. He gave me stretches to do and had me do STEM 3 times a week for a month. By the end of that month my back pain was gone and a CT scan confirmed my disks were no longer bulging. it was life changing. That was 10 years ago. Anytime I get a flare up in my back I so the stretches and it goes away.

'Mornin Blue,
I'd forgotten all about this thread and my back pains are a thing in the distant past. I guess going to the chiropractor helped more than anything. I went weekly (weakly??? :) ) for almost a year and that was what turned me around. The Chiropractic doc would pop my back then I'd get about a 30 minute massage from this cute little blond gal. No, the massages didn't include a happy ending.

I still get spasms that are painful, but they're not like pain from sciatica and not located in just one area. They seem to move around from one area to the next. My doc gave me a prescription for Naproxen and that really helps. When I take one the pain is gone in about 30 mins.

Oh, and my wife buys CBD drinks to help her sleep. A new pot store opened up about a mile or so from the house. We stopped by there before it opened and she asked if they were going to be carrying the CBD drink she likes. They hadn't planned on carrying any drinks so she talked them into carrying the brand she likes.

They took her up on her suggestion and found that those drinks are big sellers. She's now a heroine to the employees of the pot store and they know her on a first name basis.

I'm not sure that first name basis thing is good when it's coming from a pot store. Oh, well.

Been doing PT for years. Problem is L4/L5 are bone on bone. They recommended fusion 3 years ago. I did PT instead which hel[ed mobility but not pain. Then they sent me to pain management and that worked for 6 months or so. When injections stopped working, they did a laminectomy. That worked for 6 or so months, then they sent me back to pain managements. First round after the laminectomy worked pretty well. Second not so much and I think the third made it worse. That was last week. Unless pain management wants to try nerve ablation, fusion is about my only real option.
