We did an overnite stay at Cayo Costa State Park dock. There is also a well protected mooring area in the bay.

There is a lot of beach space for beaching or anchoring.

We were treated to a full moon, then to Kobe beef sliders for dinner and pancakes in the morning!

That's one of our favorite spots Jim. Pelican Bay is a great anchorage. Aquapalooza 2009 was held there, too. Here are some of our pics on that same beach from the event.

Thanks for sharing!

One year we even celebrated Thanksgiving in that very spot with some friends. Ahh, how I miss being down there. Soon.

My friend Bob, carving up the Turkey at Pelican Bay, Cayo Costa. Thanksgiving 2008.

We have always bypassed that beach area in the past. It is now a favorite! Thanks for your photos. When do you get here?

Jim

Month of July. You're back North then, no?

Usually we are there for Spring break, which is this week, but this year it didn't work out. Too much stuff going on with other commitments right now. So now I'm sitting here looking at this, wondering if I will even get out at all this week.

Hey, don't mean to divert attention, but I couldn't help but notice your link to your pics in your sig. I went out there and saw that Meridian going down. Ouch!!! Where was that?

Given your recent photo shoots, not sure if I'd want to boat while your around ;) I mean, you capture Sea Tow towing Sea Tow and a Yacht sinking. Doesn't bode well for the rest of us passing through :)

Give me a wide berth :) There is a lot of boats down here and most of our time is on the water. There are also a lot of people that lack common sense! We have put at least 150 hours on our boat since mid October, so we see a lot. I am always listening to channel 16 and will go to the distress area if we are close. What else do I have to do???

The Meridian was very close to our home port at Sanibel Harbour Yacht Club. Here is a link I posted on another forum 46 Meridian

Yes we will be gone by then, we should be leaving by mid June to either Michigan or Colorado. We have not decided yet.

Between you and Pelican Bay, have you check out...

Pig Beach - Southern tip of Cayo Costa
Barnacle Phil's - Great black bean and rice soup, dog's welcomed in their outdoor dining area.

Has there been another Aquapalooza there or did the officials from Cayo Costa shut it down?

There have been several over the years. In 07 and 08 they held it on the outer shore of Cayo Costa. In 09, they held it at the beach at Pelican Bay. In 10 due to economy, they combined our areas event with the Sarasota event and held it up in Sarasota at Lido Beach. Been to all of them...
