Hi there,

we have very cold winters overhere in the Netherlands and because the electriciy went off, i had some damage because some parts were frozen.
All the cooling liquid leaked away. I repaired it all, but i am wondering how many litres (or gallons) go in there? I have two Caterpillar 3116 engines in my '96 400 sedan bridge. I put 10 litres in the cooling system of one engine, but it's still not full....

Thank you!

Roy

What type coolant are you using? I don't think youy can use just any kind. I use rotella ELC (extended life coolant)

You will need 28 Liters per engine, and maybe a little more. You should use Caterpillar ELC. It comes premixed 50/50. Don't mix types of coolants, so if you don't know what is in there you need to drain it, flush it with water and refill with new coolant. However, I am surprised that the coolant in the engine froze. The CAT ELC will protect you engine down to -34 centigrade.

Good luck,

Pete
