On a Sundancer, where do you (would you) mount a Category I EPIRB (hydrostatic release)?

In the cockpit next to the helm, thinking near the manual release for the Halon system, but then again.... if the camper canvas is up while underway, and she goes down quick, the EPIRB is trapped inside the boat no...:smt021

What are others doing out there?

Thanks,

Nudge... am I thinking too much about this issue or has no one dealt with it?

I have seen a couple mounted on the outside of the arch (high) on 340's - doesn't look pretty IMHO.

I know there's a rationale behind Cat I EPIRBS somewhere, but I can't figure it out. Why would you want the boat to have to sink 15' below the surface before it deployed, and then it's not with you in the raft, anyway.

Was there a reason you selected a Cat I over a II or a PLB?

The admiral likes the idea of a Cat I over a Cat II. The only rationale i can think of, is if you get run over and don't have time, or the ability, for whatever reason to get to it.

They make Cat I's for a reason though:huh:

My vote would be that if you have a good mounting spot for the pod near the helm to place it there. I believe they make a rail mount as well, you might also consider that option if you have any rails aft.

A thought...(rare for me, but happens occasionally) does the pod need to mounted vertically? The top of the arch- if it can be mounted horizontally- would be a perfect place. Mostly out of sight, you can reach it for manual deployment easily, and there's obviously no overhead obstructions.
