Hi all, working on surveys for a pair of 2002 3126's in a 410DA. The local Milton CAT doesn't have an official survey process or deliverable. They said they've done boats before, check all fluids and get sample tests done, present for the sea trial, check leaks, etc, but that agenda seems really loose to me

I'd like to have an actual punch list and expections set ahead of time. Can anyone share (even in PM if you'd prefer) what their CAT survey test plan looked like and what the final report had in it?

Your insurance company will require the formal survey's to be completed and submitted (Hull and Engine). If you are to finance the boat then they will also require the same. Might as well do them with a reputable survey firm and get the documentation.

They should have a standard form that is filled out that includes the various RPMs (At the motor and at the helm noting differences) - Idle, full throttle(at the dock) and under way, Oil pressure, Temps etc. Condition of coolant. Any noted leaks or maintenance. Perform the "Blow by test" (You may have to ask for it - I requested it be performed), which is proprietary to CAT.

My CAT tech was onboard for the sea trial and monitored the engines in the engine room during the trial. My tech was very thorough and reviewed and discussed his findings with me. A few days later I received a formal written report.

thanks everyone, I've forwarded some notes to the CAT rep

@fwebster can I ask for your expert opinion?
