Just ordered a Sherwood 1710C water pump to replace the current one which is old and has a leaky seal. I noticed that the 1710C comes with the flange mounted on the pump and the flange has a threaded end. So, once I take off the 2 bolts holding the current water pump in place will I pull the.pump straight out, or will I unscrew it.feom the motor ?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

There is a gear on the shaft end and it is held on with a nut (that threaded end). The gear comes out with the pump. You will most likely need a gear puller as the gear is mated to a tapered shaft.
There is a metallic gasket between the pump and engine - did you get that also?
FYI one of the pump bolts runs completely through the engine front cover and has a nut on the other side.

You will pull it straight out. As stated, you will need a gear puller so you can remove the gear and install on the new pump. Did you get 2 or just replacing one? If just one, I would recommend doin both.

Guys, thank you very much for the information. Really great to know about the gasket, I had no idea. I suppose I would have found that when I pulled the pump off. I will get a gear puller so that I can remove the gear from the old pump assembly, but I am curious will I just push it on to the new pump assembly by hand before I mount the pump back on to the motor?
