Looking for a mechanic that can remove, clean and then reinstall and adjust my injectors. Been getting a lot of sooting lately, and the previous work I've done hasn't helped. I don't think it needs to be a marine-specific mechanic, so my next step was going to call NC Machine (our local CAT dealer) to see if they had anyone to recommend, but thought I would start here.

Thanks,
Kevin

NC Machinery & ask if Bear is available... Don't waste your time Tacoma Diesel as they just don't care. I had Kraken Marine Services LLC on board for my Westerbeke and the mechanic was very sharp, new his stuff and I would have on board again if needed. (888) 572-5362

Thanks Mark, I suspected that NC would be a good source, I've been there a lot of times before getting parts. I'll give Bear a call and see what I can do. Kraken may be a good option, though I keep my boat on Lk Washington so may pay a fortune in travel costs to get them up from Tacoma.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

I'm on the Hylebos and Kraken didn't charge travel time (maybe because of proximity) but NC charged 2 hours travel...

I just had Kraken out to the boat yesterday to replace my injectors. I was with them all day yesterday, I was really impressed with them. They sent 2 techs out and each one tackled 1 motor, they wrapped up in about 3.5 hours of work. After starting the motors up, the port side was running really rough and smoking heavily, they pulled the valve cover back off and traced it down to a bad injector. The injectors were reman'd Cat, so they called Cat back and had another one delivered today, which he got replaced. Everything after that initial 3.5 hours is warrantied by Cat, so I won't pay for the extra time. I've not gotten the invoice yet, but his initial estimate was for $3200 + Tax, which included 8 hours of labor, so we'll see what it comes in at.

I'll definitely use them again for any major work items, thanks Mark for the recommendation! He asked how I heard about them and I said it was from this forum, he asked if it was from Bill Collector, so he definitely knows you. :)
