I recently installed a E125 on my 1997 400 Sundancer with 3116s. Can I read my engine data - like temp, RPMs, etc - on my E125. There is a really cool screen on the E125 for displaying engine data. Does a 1997 3116 send J1939 data over it's data link?

Thanks

Na - I did it with existing sensors.
Maybe I'm confused but I followed your link and it looks like you added new sensors and I'm not getting the connection to the OP's interest in Raymarine compatibility.... Yours appears to be Garmin? Also missing the connection to CAT 3116's? Your link points to transmission data?

Following ttmott's diagram, he did use existing engine sensors (RPM, Eng Temp, Oil Pressure) , and added the missing transmission pickups (Pressure, Temp). To make this NMEA 2K compatible was the Nolan RS11 device.

Not being an expert on NMEA nor J1939 they look to be compatible. Reading between the lines, both devices Garmin and the E125 should be able to read the service bus data.

PMC - thanks for the clarification. When I originally tried to follow ttmott's link I was using my iPhone and the diagram was too small and cumbersome to follow on the small screen. I figured there had to be more to the link but as I said, I was confused. This is interesting to me because my yard and I spent all of last summer watching the finger pointing between Cummins/Mercuriser and Raymarine. They never were able to get the Cummins NMEA gateway to talk to the Raymarine E120's. Yet here we have non-electronic CAT's working fine with a third party interface...... Awesome.

Super interesting and appears to be exactly what I'm looking for :smt001

Thanks ttmott and nicely done.
