Cat 3116 alternator

Can someone tell me the OEM part number for the Cat 3116 alternator. Also if anyone knows the new alternator part number. I ordered a new one and it wasn’t even close even though it said it fit my motors

There are 2 important umbers on the valve cover of your boat: the engine serial number and the "AR#, which is the arrangement number. Take both to your local Caterpillar dealer and order a remanned Cat Alternator or take the alternator part number to a Leece-Neville/Prestolite dealer and ask then to match the Cat part number.

Just ordering an alternator for a 3116 will just lead to frustration because Cat supplies engines for everything from school buses to road graders thru their dealer/distributor network. Their parts system is very precise and you need the AR# to get the right alternator. Leece Neville is a huge OEM supplier fro alternators etc. and the aftermarket is addressed by their Prestolite Division. They can cross the Cat part number to a Prestolite alternator which will save you a few $$.

I went thru this 4-5 years ago and found that Prestolite changes alternators pretty frequently. I found that the original alternators for my 450 were 56 amp and the current replacements were 98 amp. So, there may be something to gain by going the route described above so you get the latest alternator design.

Prestolite and caterpillar were no help they just keep sending me back to the alternator that won’t fit the motor.

I’m lost anyone else have this issue?
Here is a picture difference between the two. Mounting brackets won’t come close to fit and the new alternator will only take a single belt pulley
