Casting Core Sand in Engine

I doubt it. Before the heads are installed the water jacket is very plainly exposed. The assembler would have to be very special idiot, more so than the typical UAW type, to put the engine together with sand in the block.

This is very rare but it did happen.
I sold a machine to a local rental house a couple years ago. It had a Kubota engine in it. Now as engines go Kubota is one of the best for equipment. After 3-4 hours running, the customer called and said the thing wouldn't start. Long story short, I sent the technician out and they found the cam wasn't turning. How could this be???

After shot peening at the factory, one of the cleaning brushes they use to run through the block fell off and never made it down one of the oil returns. After 3 hours of run time the bee bee's they used to peen with, fell out of the return, got caught on the crank gear and went between the crank and cam gear, shearing the gear off of the cam. It was so rare that Kubota exchanged the engine completely and we sent it back to them for analysis.
