Carpet replacement for 310 Sun Dancer

I used SnapInCarpet for my 310, installed in Spring od 2010. I also got a roll of Eco-Foam padding from a local Home Depot and cut panels to place under the carpet. Nice and soft to walk on and aids in keeping the underside of the carpet free of moisture.

just make sure it's the ribbed backed carpet and not he cheap black foamed back sh**.

Before committing, take look at Corinthian Carpeting. They are an advertiser here as well. I find their carpeting to be substantially better and heavier than others. Whatever you use be sure the backing is PVC, not rubber or latex. Also, I did some thinking out of the box on my replacement cockpit carpets and found the folks at Corinthian to be wonderful. They are competent and very easy to work with when it comes to making changes to the OEM design. My carpeting is now over a year old and still looks like the day I installed it.....but I used a premium Berber instead of the standard weight.

Tried them. Their quote was way more expensive, plus, I'd have to make a template, they didn't have the images for my '98 310.... too much work LOL

Too much work to own a superior product.........?

Actually, the Sea Ray OEM patterns are not a great fit, so any duplicate of them is going to have the same problems. I hated the large gaps between the individual carpet pieces. They pose cleaning and fit problems. THe other thing I hate about the OEM carpets are all the snaps required to hold all the pieces in place.

My carpets are the 7th one down from the top.....to compare the custom fit/no gaps/no snaps look to the OEM fit with gaps, compare my photos to the 14th one down.......(J. Rosamilia from Portland Oregon)

Also remember you get what you pay for......Corinthian warranties their carpet sets for 3 years, good luck getting the others to last that long.

I agree with Frank. I had mine replaced by a local shop and the quality is great, although the fit is not as I gave him my old ones as a template. He said it would have been a much better seamless fit had he done a template. I tried to save some money and wished I had not. Doing the template is the way to go IMO.

Be very careful of using old, particularly OEM, carpets for a template. The backing causes them to shrink a lot........a whole lot....like 15%. That means the carpet cutting guys are just guessing at the dimensions and you will not be happy with the fit.

I have "wall to wall" carpeting in the cockpit but it is too dark and starting to wear so I pulled it out and took it home. It fits perfectly and has no gaps so I would assume that it would be fine for a template? I love the idea of no snaps. The PO had this carpet installed and the took out the OEM snaps and patched them but not very well. They also added the snaps for the new carpet and I wish they didn't. I think a nice new classy carpet would enhance the look of the cockpit.

Ken,

If your boat is like mine, you can make the template so the new carpet fits like wall to wall carpeting.........i.e. captured between the side wall/sink module and the seat base or the transom and the seats. The PVC backing Corinthian uses will not slip around. Once you get it in place, its going to stay there. The only exception is if you have any smaller pieces that are not captured as described. As long as your carpets are not shrunken, and aren't a soggy mess they can be used for patterns...just be sure the fit is right for eliminating the snaps. Corinthian uses a type of plastic sheeting for templates that is very easy to use and has lines printed in it. It took me about an hour to make the full set of templates, so it isn't something to fear.

The fellow I worked thru at Corinthian is Nick Weston 1-866-785-6507 or <nweston@corinthianmarine.com>

Thanks Frank. The carpet fits perfectly and the snaps are not needed to keep it fit. As a matter of fact I often didn't bother snapping many of the snaps when I use the carpet. I would just need to see what carpet I would "be allowed" to purchase.

One final point is that Corinthian's premium Berber is a heavier and a much tighter weave than regular Berber. It is easier to keep clean since the weave is so tight that dirt doesn't ever get down in the carpet. I suspect it will wear better, but I really don't know yet since I've only had my carpets about a year..........so far they show no wear at all. The Premuim Berber is a little more expensive, but will worth the added $.50/ft (est.)
