We are renting a house on the water and a 24' bow rider for two weeks over the up coming Holidays. I have not been to Cape Coral before and was looking for local knowledge of places to go on the boat on day trips with the family ...be it islands or retaurants things to see etc...

Appreciate the help

Dan go north into Charlotte Harbor to Fisherman's Village there is a LARGE resturant Harpoon Harry's with 2 types of dining and lots of little shops to browse through and shop. You tie up at the resturante. You won't be disappointed in that trip. Make sure to stay in the channel markers.

You should be able to get to North Captiva, Sanibel, & Cayo Costa no problem

Restaurants: Barnicle Phils (North Captiva skinny water), Cabbage Key (East of Cayo Costa), Rum Runners (Cape Coral), Harpoon Harrys (up Charlotte Harbor & a long way) and many more.

Where are you staying?

Email me if you need some help, we're around.

We have been to Fishermans Village when we stayed in Port Charlotte...good place. Missnmountains we are near Gleason & Santa Barbara it looks like it is a bit of a trip to get out of the canals...hopefully that will be half the fun

Thanks for the information

You'll have several bridges to go under. It should be a boring 45 minutes. You will exit via the Chiquita Lock. Very busy on weekends.

Looks like we're going to be in Ft. Myers Beach (instead of Siesta Key) next week. Wife and daughter have never been there and the last time I was in the area was 1981 - I'm sure things have changed...
If we wanted to rent a boat for a couple of days, any recommendations?

Thanks

And if you go to Fisherman's Village on a Friday night, you can go to the middle of the place and listen to really bad music and watch very old people dance...

Missmountains...that was my point when your just visiting for the first time.....45 minutes is fun....couple of weeks later and you want to plane.. We are SE of that intersection....I have looked at the aerial and I don't see locks.

Gary.....that would be the case for all malls in Florida...hopefully we can all be there one day....laughin at each other with a margarita in one hand and a kid to take us home on the boat in the other

Check out the islands and keys in Pine Island Sound. #1 is Cabbage Key, you will never forget it and it will draw you back. Dinner at the Old Captiva House at Tween Waters inn on Captiva Island is an unbelievable experience. South Seas Plantation is a great stop, and gasperilla island at Boca Grand Pass... There are so many in that area. You are gonna love it! All these have web sites you can check out.

Dan SE you won't have a lock. My guess based on your intersections put you in SW. You should exit the cape into the River and will have a manatee zone before getting going into the ICW. Left to the Sanibel Bridge or Right up the ICW to the Islands. We usuall go up the ICW and out Red Fish pass to hang out at North Captiva near charlie pass.

enjoy.

Well to say the least we have had incredible weather and been to a couple of great spots. We anchored off of Fort Meyers beach just south of the pier a couple of times and walked in from the boat to the beach..to restaurants and shopping....kept the girls busy shopping for hours while my son and I sat on the boat and watched people walking by and boats...we made it up to Captiva the other day moored at Jensens and walked up through town to the beach....kids spent hours picking up shells while my wife and I sat at Mucky ducks for lunch....great spot... We have had dolphins come up right under the boat twice once through the manatee area around markers 90 on our way down to the intercoastal and again on our way up to Captiva...first time for us seeing them pretty neat experience for the whole family....on Captiva saw our first Manatee at Jensens.....We still have another week of boating and alot more exploring....but so far a great area

Thats a nice area, a spot to definitely stop at is barnacle phills on upper captiva, picnic island is another good spot to go if you bring the family and grill out or so.. out at fort myers beach you can stop at lovers key (down near the end of the beach by the first bridge towards bonita) at the beginning of the island closer to the main bridge there is a few good resturaunts as well. be sure to stay in the channels, it gets really shallow really quick if you dont.

I am really surprised to see all of the feedback on cape coral and southwest florida recently, i diddnt know so many of us lived there. We will have to do a get together.

Capt Jack, reviving this old thread. Any progress on a southwest CSR get together? I have a place in Port Charlotte and do most of my FL boating from Venice to Marco Island. Will be down there the weeks of 3/16, 4/20 and all of July. And let's not forget Aquapalooza 09.
