Canvas troubles.....

I have a 2001 240 Sundancer with a camper top. Actually just bought it about 3 weeks ago. I am pulling my hair out trying to get the canvas to stay attached to the window structure. It has the rubber seal (maybe they all do??) to attach along the window frame but I must be doing something wrong. Is there a technique that will make this easier?

Has anyone just given up and put snaps on it??

It seems to tight for me to get it into the frame.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just a tip, if your gaskets are really stiff get them wet with plane old water then push them in with a large flat blade screwdriver. This is best done from the dock and not wile you are onboard. Be very careful to not tear the top. Once you get them all the way in they don’t seem to roll back out even when they get old and stiff.

Getting both edges of the gasket in will stop them from rolling back out. Once you do it a few times you will be able to feel it and it will become second nature.

With my 1998 240DA the forward top can be raised in the back by moving the poles up one click resulting in the front being lowered a few inches.

After the three front panels are installed and the side panels are in place, fastened via the zipper at the start, dash side I then lower the top back down in the rear which brings the front up making the three front panels tight. I actually have to pull the rear down with some degree of light force.

Next I complete the zippers on the two side panels then connect the forward top to the rear top. Finally I can attach the rear top sides and back.

Once it’s all installed the forward middle panel seems to be removable and re-attachable with out lowering the top.

In Wisconsin with three small kids this camper top is really needed to extend the cruising season.

We put in mid April and have already put on 50+ hours.
