I am always wary when someone recommends Some Other Brand than the one I am used to. We are replacing the canvas on our boat, in hopes it will be more desirable and sell. I am familiar with the Sunbrella name and confident that it is a good product. My canvas guy calls today to recommend, he will install whatever I request, A canvas product called Top Notch.

Does anyone have experience with Top Notch or other brands of canvas that they recommend or recommend staying away from? Thanks, Todd

I with you why change, for any bimini I would use "sunbrella" but I would use ther new product (3years old) sumbrella supreme it has 2 layers and is waterproof. Now you can get the color fastness of sumbrella while being totally water proof. Ck oy their wedb site.

The new flocked Sunbrella is made by the maker of Sunbrella, Glen Raven Mills, and it carries the full 5 year Sunbrella warranty. It is both waterproof and breathable which should really cut down on mildew in the cockpit when the top gets a few years old. The specs for Top Notch read very much like Sunbrella except I do noe see where their fibers are UV stabilized which may mean it will not be a color fast or fade resistant as Sunbrella. It is so much like Sunbrella, I'd bet the cost is comparable. If that is right, then there probably won't be much if any savings in cost....so why change what has been proven to work well?

Just my 2 Cents worth, if you are doing this as a selling point I think more people have heard of Sunbrella and the value it adds, than Top Notch:huh:

Top notch is not exactly like sunbrella, it has some type of urethane coating on the inside which makes it much more water proof (but also much less pliable and doesn't fold backup into a boot as easily as sunbrella and is also a little more prone to getting mildew on the inside when boat is kept closed up for long periods.)I have both,my front bimini, area above helm is Top Notch, and the rear enclosure bimini is regular sunbrella.Top notch doesnt breath as good.
