My mooring cover is Westland "sharkskin" cover that I got off overtons. It started letting the water through this year so I cleaned it by soaking in a barrel with detergent and oxyclean then thoroughly scrubbing and rinsing. After letting it dry I then applied the Starbrite Waterproofing w/PTEF spray and let it dry. Just a few month later it seems to be back where I started.

I'm wondering what everyone else is using and how much life you get from it?

Not familiar with "sharkskin", but for sunbrella type canvas, I have had good results with soap and water and a brush for cleaning, then a couple of coats of 303 protectant. No leaks for at least two seasons for me . Hope this helps.

I used Scotchgard on my canvas 5 yrs ago when we bought the boat & it has held up very well. I'll probably re-coat again this spring.

Is it leaking through where water puddles? If so, that's pretty tough to stop without tenting it better.

I've only sold a few Sharkskins over the year. It's polyester, whereas Sunbrella is acrylic. Honestly, I don't know if it requires a different treatment.

Best bet might be to call Westland directly: 800-835-7992

I get good results from the Aerospace 303.

Doesn't really puddle anywhere. It's a really snug cover with straps/buckles that attach to the trailer for tightening. The first 2 years I had this cover it was dry as a bone! This season has been a different story.

You are right. it is a very tight weave polyester.

I sent an email to them but haven't heard back yet. I'll call if they don't respond.

here is Westland response.

Sharkskin cleaning instructions

Wash with Non Detergent Soap & Water or Marine approved cleaning products once every 3 months or as needed depending on the environment.

If it is pollen season, the cover should be cleaned off weekly with a blower to avoid Pollen build up. Never use Bleach or products w/ Bleach
