Well before I take the canvas to the Canvas Shop Wednesday I wanted to clean it up. I sprayed it down with bleach and Simple Green then pressure washed the canvas.
On the Carpets I did not use bleach just simple green. It's amazing the difference and I'm not sure if the pictures do the results justice.
This also shows many of you who thought I could restore the windows how bad of shape they are in.

Nice.
I too am a pressure washer afficionado-gentle setting, not to close to the items to be cleaned.. but I tried the hoover steam cleaner on the cockpit carpets last year with little success. Pressure Washer did a great job this year- I then treated all the canvas and carpet with 303 Fabric Protector. Eventually I will have to recarpet and recanvas the 420, but with proper care the materials last a long time.
I know you are having fun, Todd, enjoy-when you splash and people ask if it is a new model it will all be worth it.

Skip

Boy that stuff is really filthy Todd. But the pressure washer sure does a good job doesn't it? I am also surprised the carpet protectors were that dirty too. Is the rest of the cabin upholstery dirty as well?

Dave

I'm not one to make quick judgment Todd, but, I would have to say that this guy didn't take care of his boat!

no the rest of the inside is actually very clean. There are a couple spots on the carpet inside the cabin that need some spot cleaning, but the rest of this stuff was simply dirt from sitting and sitting and sitting and sitting. I was a little leary at first because the biminis had so much dirt on it I thought the canvas may have come apart. Once it got wet and the Simple Green sat for awhile, it sprung back. I'm going to have all the snaps replaced and maybe even the carpet runners redone.

yeah I need to go buy a gallon of 303 Aerospace cleaner and another gal of the Protectant.

Nice job cleaning. We use our pressure washer frequently - it does a great job on the boat carpet.

Dave S - thanks for the 303 link.

This was the stuff I was going to clean the vinyl with
a-cleaner275.jpg

then the fabric guard for the canvas and I forgot about the second one you posted
Aerospace protectant for the vinyl.

Wow Todd,

I am particularly impressed with the clean up of the carpet. Like Skip, I too tried the Hoover method with only limited results. Looks like I will be getting out the pressure washer and putting it (gently) to my carpet. Thanks for posting.

BTW, where are you guys finding the best deal on the 303 products. I need a good gallon to retreat all canvas, carpet, runners etc.??

You may want to try Spray Nine on the vinyl. I just started using it this year at the recommendation of several others on the board and it works great and will not harm the vinyl. It's available at Lowes and is under $10 bucks for a big spray bottle.

What's your advice for those of us who don't have removeable carpets??? My 190 is in need of a little carpet cleanup, but I'm hesitant to hop in the boat with a pressure washer and spray the carpet down due to the location of the speakers and the electronics under the dashboard. Am I being a little paranoid?

you can spot clean it with the above stuff, but soaking it down with simple green or other cleaner, then covering your speakers and electronics with visqeen, then pressure wash. Make sure you have a way to let it all drain out. or suction it so you don't have mold or it just stays moist.
