Hi

Just bought my first Sea Ray on the internet(!) I will start a thread on that crazy deal later, but hopefully I get a boat in a few weeks time :)

My question:
The canvas on the boat needs to be replaced. Making one localy is very expensive (living in Oslo, Norway..) so I thought I would get one from a supplier in the Us which has the templates. BUT: The company I have been talking to can only supply for the 2002 and onwards. They say:

" I am sorry but the reason why we can not make your canvas is because your boat was made in Phoenix Arizona and they had alot of fit issues. We do not suggest that you buy canvas for this boat.If you were to buy canvas it would be non returnable non refundable."

So, can anyone say if the 2002 and 2001 is similar? I could live with making small altorations like holes etc localy if the rest is the same.

Welcome to CSR!

The HIN number on your boats starts with 'SERA' and you contacted to Great Lakes Canvas........

I have a SERA boat as well and have heard the same thing. All I can suggest is that you either have a local shop make new for you, or you try out a piece from Great Lakes recognizing it is an experiment and be willing to absorb the cost if it does not work.

When you have the time you should read the 'Official 280' thread.

Thanks for the reply Henry, and you have some inside information ;)
I will get a quote and might just roll the dice...

My 280 is a 2003. The canvas snaps and zippers to the arch. In 2001 it snapped only. I don’t know about 2002.

Other then that I do not know of a difference.

My 2002 snaps and zips to the arch, But.... my 2002 also snaps to the top of the windshield frame rail. In 2002 other Sea Rays used a rubber extrusion that was inserted into the top of the rail.

Doug does your canvas attach to the the windshield with the extrusion, or snaps?

The story I have been told is that the Sea Ray Phoenix plant (HIN prefix SERA) sourced their canvas from a supplier other than Great Lakes Canvas. When Sea Ray closed the Phoenix plant the canvas patterns were 'lost' or otherwise not supplied to GL canvas.

Henry,

We have snaps between the windshield and the isenglass parts. I did not know that was different also. Thank you Henry.

I wonder if the OP could add the male snap parts to his windshield?
