Cancun Mexico Do's and Don'ts?

Word to the wise though: Be very very situational awareness! Understand Mexico isn't the safest place on the planet right now and you are actually in a differant country.

Have fun, but be safe.
Cancun is the safest place, certainly safer than most major US cities and there is a reason for that. PM me if you really want to know why that is. Don't equate Cancun with any other part of Mexico regarding safety.

The part that always worries me is the "cab ride" to and from the resort!!! I'm convinced one of these times we'll be robbed!!! Other than that we love Mexico, and the DR

Present one case to me where a tourist was robbed by a cab driver in Cancun. Just one. It simply does not happen and there is a good reason for it and it is not because of their police force, laws, or criminal justice system. Now, the DR is a different story all together and it is very easy to get robbed there.

"And just last month, seven people were killed and four others wounded in a shooting at a bar frequented by taxi drivers."

Just who do you think would shoot up a bunch of taxi drivers? What do you suppose the taxi drivers did to deserve that? Why do you suppose the taxi drivers are so pleasant and accommodating? I had one drive all the way back to my hotel to return my cell phone that he found in the back seat. Think about it.

Lovely beaches, rum, topless women ,and ah!!! This,,,,

CANCUN, Mexico, April 14 (Reuters) - Six people were found strangled to death and one decapitated in the southern Mexican tourist resort of Cancun on Sunday, the state's deputy attorney general said, in the latest mass killing to strike the city in the last few weeks.

Police found the bodies of the five men and two women in a shack in the outskirts of Cancun, a major tourist destination on Mexico's Caribbean coast, that has largely escaped the drug-related violence that has racked Acapulco, a faded tourist destination on the Pacific coast.

Ok they where drug dealers but. Still!!!! Be careful!!! Keep your eyes open, ears open ,and mouth shut !
one trick we use is, my wife is Cuban but looks Irish, (haha) sooo she listens and only speaks English to all Spanish speaking Folks,,, they never pick up on her ....

We have been to the Mayan side many times and have never had an issue. Be aware of your surroundings and respectful of them and their country and you will have a great time. Timeshare people you will deal with, just walk away nod don't talk to them. We are heading to the other side (Puerto Vallarta) for Christmas this year and not a worry in the world. Enjoy your vacation that's what you paid for so make it fun.

With all that violence and the beheadings in Northern Mexico and the hundreds of thousands of tourists with American dollars flocking to Cancun, where is the story of the American tourist being victimized in Cancun? How about a robbery? Maybe a pick pocketing? Surely there must be one kidnapping. Keep searching and let me know when you find one. After an hour or so of searching, see what you can find in the closest major US city to you. Then ask yourself, why no crime against tourists in Cancun and I will direct you to the stories posted above.

You could come to Chicago for a visit. Honestly, if you are not venturing out into the country, are conscious of your surroundings, and don't flash cash or massive jewelry around, I fee you are safe in Cancun. Maybe safer than downtown Chicago.

Well, we made it back in once piece. All I can say is WOW. It is a different world but it was fantastic. The hotel was great once we got where we needed to be and the staff was exceptional. I believe it was Humph that suggested Coco Bongo.... That was fantastic. I have partied on the lake Erie Islands and they didn't hold a match to the party that took place at that place. It was awesome! The beach was great, the water was great, and most of all... The beautiful women were sensational! I am already planning my return trip to Temptations Resort as yes they may be a swinger haven to some but it is a great relaxation spot and no kids to deal with. I would rate it 5 stars on the service we received and the things we experienced. I actually enjoyed haggling with the locals and learning Spanish! Thanks for all of the advice and I couldn't be happier with the vacation!

Some photo's to share!

Cool! Glad you had a great time, thanks for sharing the pictures!

(I see you found my dinghy (pic 6)! I wondered what happened to it...)

Cool pictures, glad you enjoyed the Coco Bongo. How did you like the dance floor? I don't remember seeing that many pleasure boats when I was down there. Very cool!

Nice. Love the Sea Ray shots. You can eat those sea urchins, you know? Did anyone threaten you? Get mugged or pick pocketed? See any Banditos?

Nice photos Jason, thanks for sharing them. Glad you had a good time down there. I was thinking of you earlier today when I read an article about 5 Cancun cops being investigated because they killed an American tourist while he was in their custody.

That would definitely ruin your vacation.

Can you post a link to the article?

So it seems he was a scumbag looser who was a trained fighter. He resisted arrest after causing problems with his neighbors. Can you blame the cops. He was probably on drugs.

I've been to that part of Mexico more than a dozen times and have never had a problem or felt threatened.

You can't fix stupid no matter where you are in the world.
