Can you sit at the helm while underway?

I hate the diminished visibility while seated. I always stand with the helm seat flipped up.

I got to thinking about this while trying to decide if I should put a wiper blade on. I'm not sure I could function looking through the windshield in the rain. (Cloudy eisenglass - rarely put it on)

While underway I always sit. Around the dock or in tight quarters, usually stand. My isinglass is usually up except the center section and sometimes the sides if its hot. I replace it when it gets cloudy.

I sit most of the time. I sometimes stand but not while on plane. Seems like I am so high up I worry a bad wave may throw me over. My problem with sitting is my eyeline is right inline with the top of the windshield. My old top was the original that came down and attached directly to the top of the windshield frame so I had to slouch slightly. I just got a new top installed with the eisenglass above the windshield so maybe now I can sit on a cushion or something?

I always sat with my 260DA. Do you use your trim tabs? Maybe the bow is riding higher than it needs to. If you lower them a bit, that will bring the bow down and make it easier to see. Granted you will never have the visibility you have with an 18' bowrider since the deck is longer. But I never found it to be an issue as long as I had the boat trimmed well.

I usually stand to be able to spot cran pots better. I have run the boat sitting, but prefer to stand. Cant fully stand with canvas up so usually sit with canvas up.

We have excellent visibility sitting or standing while looking through a glass windshield in either position.

I didn't know sitting was an option. Where would your dog sit?

I can sit, but prefer to stand exactly as you do on the same boat.

Mostly sit. I rarely stand completely upright, and that's only if I'm docking. But when I am up it's really leaning on the bolster seat, so about 70% erect..... which at my age is pretty good ;-)

I mostly use the bolster option for longer lake crossings and such, easier on my back, and not so much for visibility. Viz is actually really good when seated on my era 380DA.

On my 21' and 24' boats, however, I stood almost exclusively. Much different situations.

On plane, I stand 100% of the time... At idle speed 6 kts, I am sitting.
