Im curious how a 270 turned into a 290. Did the same thing happen to the 280's

1990, 1991 270DA was the same boat as the 1992, 1993 290DA

This redefining and thereby confusing what a number represented has happened a lot. In 1998 they took the 270 number for a new 9'2" beam hull and continued to build what was the 97 8'6" beam hull in 98 and called it a 270SE. Therefore there are two different size models named 270 in 98 & 99. In the 80's the 270 was a huge wide beam boat.

My boat labeled 1990 420 sd, overall length 47'6''. In 1993 the EXACT same boat became the 440 sd. same length 47' 6''

Yes sir. Nothing new. My boat 19SPX will soon be the new 219 SPX because it's 21.9 with the outdrive. And so it goes....
