We are taking a trip with marine max to the golden isles off the Georgia coast next month and plan to stay longer than the group. I have a GPS chart plotter but would like to have some quality paper charts as well.

Can any of you recommend the best place to get some. I have seen NOAA's site. Is this a good place to buy them from?

I like the Maptech charts because they are waterproof and damn near impossible to tear.

I'll second the Maptech charges, I have both a large book and single charts made by them. Also picked up some nice waterproof tubes at a boat show to store the single maps in (rolled up of course).

Sounds like you already got some good tips on the paper charts. Great trip. We did the same thing last year stayed a couple extra day. Did the run to Jacksonville and a did the raft-up at the Jacksonville Aquapalozee(?sp) Are they staying at Amelia Island Yacht Basin again this year? I may have some garmin tracks/routes if you are interested. Who is leading this year?

Yes they are staying at the Amelia Yatch Basin. I have a raymarine so I don't know if the data would transfer but if you have the numbers from the waypoints I could punch those in. I don't know who is leading it this year. Someone from Lanier. I don't know any of those guys.

We're planning on staying in the area for a week. We have some family in the area and might go look at the new development at bridge point.

Did you enjoy the trip? We are hoping we can keep our 7 and 3 year old busy.

It was a good trip, but you did not have the comradery like the TN river trips. You will find that you are on your own once you get there other than maybe the Saturday night dinner. Are you planning on staying on your boat? if so you may want to look into staying at the Fernandina Harbor. Amelia Yacht basin is nice, but away from everything. We had a great time last year. I lead a group of boat down to Jacksonville one day. We went to the Landings for lunch then back to the Jacksonville Aquapalooza. The MM group left early Sunday we stayed a couple extra days. Did Cumberland Island (Had the beach all to ourselves for a while) also ran up to the ruins Beach Creek. With the younger kids may want to run back to the Jeckyll and let them do the water park, etc. We did Fort George one day not sure the younger kids would enjoy it. Did the Segway tour had a blast. I've got some pictures on my web site if you are interested.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Give me a call if I can help. Would like to hear your thoughts on the Bridge pointe development. Are you also going to check out the development at St Mary - Cumberland Harbour?

If you all like low-county boils there is a resturant I think it is on Jeckyll Island that says it is the best in the area that you can boat too. We wanted to check it out just did not have enough time. I'll see if I can find the link.

The bridge point folks have been after us for months now to come see the properties. So if we decide to go I'll let you know what we find.
