Calling all 360 DA owners

Bd360,

I have started today my generator repair and upgrade. First action today was to remove the exhaust for the engine and generator. I got to say that removing the water hoses is a complete nightmare and will have the Dremel them out as they are not going anywhere!

1) I will be replacing the bottom pan with a new one
2) Locate and fix an oil leak coming from the rear of the generator
3) Installing a oem cabinet to reduce the noise

I have been looking at the best ways doing all the work within or worse case removing the gene

As I was looking at your project, I noticed a hose that I don’t have.
Could you take a pic to show where it goes ? does anyone knows the PN ?

Please help

IM,

This hose comes from the air filter box to the top of the engine, near where the oil filler cap is. Like a cars P.C.V. location.

MI,

Please share how you will lift the genny to get the pan out and new one in.

And pic's if you can.

Sorry for the late response.

thank you ! found the PN . for some reason I didnt have that

Haven't executed yet but planned to lift using a micro lift (see below)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082X38J93/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2QI9VN2NT26XC&psc=1

Lifting the generator side and blocking and then lifting the engine side and blocking on the outside of the pan
hoping the pan will slide out and reposition the new one...
that is the theory - we will see real life :) - also I purchased an OEM sound enclosures which will be added at that time.

picture upon completion !

Please post pics of the jacking process as I have a buddy who needs a pan and I was wondering how this could be done. I am very interested to see this.

Hello,

TimeFlys was kind enough to send me a link to this group. I have copied below a little introduction for my wife and I. Very much looking forward to learning and reading about the boat we hope to complete purchase on.

I admit I have only skimmed the first page or 2 of this forum. I was not aware that the Sundancer 360 was not that popular of a boat from what I see in the first few posts here. In any event, we are hopeful our purchase goes through and that we are in the water May!

Thanks again for the link TimeFlys

Hello everyone,

My wife and I are new to this club and we are currently in the process of purchasing a new-to-us, 2002 SeaRay Sundancer, 360. The boat has 8.1 Horizons, V-Drives, 725hrs, Gennie with 265 hours, bow and stern thrusters with new canvas and a hydraulic lift on the stern. We have a survey scheduled for this coming Monday and a water test when the boat is put in the water in May. Currently, the boat is in heated storage and looks simply immaculate. We are new to a boat of this size (previously owned an 18FT bow rider) so definitely a big step up for us. I simply wanted to post a quick intro as I have already benefited from discussions here.
We just secured a slip (pending survey/water test conditions of sale) in Sarnia and will keep the boat on Lake Huron but travel on the rivers to Lake Erie. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum and good luck with purchase. We've had our 360DA for 2 full seasons now and its been a great boat. This forum is a wealth of information.

Welcome aboard,

This is "THE" site for all boating info. Have owned ours for 12 years next month and have enjoyed everything about her. We did "THE GREAT LOOP" in 2013 with the 360 and for us it was and is the perfect boat!

BD360, I would love to hear recap of your journey doing the great loop ! did you have any issues with fuel range ?
We did in 2021 tarpon spring down to the key's crossed to the berry islands and back to Daytona Beach
the yacht was then shipped to Lake Michigan.
if all goes as planned we will be going from milwaukee to Toronto via Trent severn canal in the summer

Not sure what your budget is but be sure to check ahead on fuel prices once you cross the border….gas in the 1000 Islands was going for $7.50/gal…diesel isn’t cheaper..it will only be more expensive next summer due to carbon taxes..you will save a bit paying with $US though.

Hey IM,

Trip of a life time. 5062 miles under the hull. 4507 gal.s of diesel @ an average of $4.07/gal. (Flat average of 1.12miles /gal.) Did just a handful of nights at anchor as we wanted to spend more time in all the towns along the way. The Trent Servern was great cruising, although alot of it is no wake. Which is fine cause there is so much to see and do on it! Diesel fuel range was not an issue. 190+ miles from Carrabelle to Tarpon Springs was the only time we ran the tanks low.

My wifes wow factor was "Mackinaw Island". Mine was all of Canada, especially the "Bobby Orr Museum" in Perry Sound.

How did you like crusing around the Bahamas and how long were you there?

Regards,

D

That’s awesome! Dream of mine

how long did it take you ?

we cruised 4 months in total (admiral + 2 kids) Bahamas was nice but had issues entering with Covid
Not much open and available at. The time
Spent a week cruising the area around Bimini (recommend to skip if feasible)
Then traveled at brry islands (chub cay) 7 amazing days
Hoped to eulethera which was beautiful but by then fuel quality starting degrading considerably and becoming difficult to find. We were essentially replacing racor at every refill to protect the main filters!
At thus point we started looking at weather window back to the US.
We crossed back to the us crushing for 2 days with refueling stops and hit nasty storm crossing the gulf back ! Got to give it to 360 who handled 15-20 ft sea’s like a champ ! both tanks were pumped and cleaned

Sounds like you had a great trip. Do you think one of those funnel filters would have worked during fuel refill? If we ever get to go, 3 or 4 months sounds about right. Around the west coast of Florida, I won't move the boat unless we're out for a week or more. Too much stuff to inspect on these boats to hopefully minimize the amount of surprises that always seem to crop up. But I do enjoy the challange!

On our Loop trip, we were gone for 7 months, but we were cruising for only 5. Had 2 months of repairs with 2 major set backs, (snaped a shaft around Sebastian Inlet, Fl. and caught a crab pot line near Elizabeth City, N.C.). 2 minor set backs, (Raymarine MFD died in Charleston, S.C. and raw water pump leaking near Albany, N.Y.).

We talked about doing it again, but not going down the interior river system, as it just wasn't for us. Would spend more time on the east coast of the U.S., Canada (if the borders were open) and Great Lakes. Then we would then come back the same way but stop at other places we missed.

As "Timeflys" mentioned, checking fuel prices was a task of my wife and at the time we went, it wasn't Canada that had the highest prices, it was Chicago! N.Y. was 3rd. The other expense that I noticed just resently that will put a hole in your budget is marinas. Our old stomping grounds in the North East, (Ct. & Ma. Islands), are up there in per foot prices.

Bottom line is as I have said for years, that anyone can own a boat, but those that cruise with them are a rare breed. But if you want to play, as they say.....!

Need to put this trip high on the to do list as it has a lot to offer.

yes overall a great trip and great memories ! though about the funnel only issue is that most if not all have a straight pipe coming out of it. 360 fuel port is almost 90degree. the funnel would require some sort of modifications to work. but yes I think it would work to minimized the extend of the issue.

5 months to perform the GL is amazing, you must have been cruising !

and I agree 100% boat like to be active, run up in the RPM's burning some fuel !

Hey MI,

Just wondering how you are making out with the genny lift? Any pic's available?

Hi Bd360

almost ready to perform the lift, received the pump yesterday we should work perfectly for the application
the new metal pan from Kohler came black so I need to scuff it up and re-paint it white.
also need to finish disconnecting the exhaust !
I will try to do a video !

Just realized your from the frozen tundra of Wisconsin! How many heaters do you have running during this type of repair? Outside or inside heated storage?

Can wait to see the pic's. What size genny are you repairing? The guy that built this boat put an 8kw in cause fit, but not much room to work on! I have maybe 1 inch above the genny to move, so could not jack up for any reason.

Best of luck with the complete repair,

Indeed Wisconsin cold and Snowy winter ! Wonderfull 9c yesterday !
we are in a heated warehouse (maritime enterprise) who is specialized in winter yacht storage.
same configuration as you 8OEZ ad yes only 1" clearance from the top deck but you only need 1/2" to remove the pan ! (crossing fingers). you need special jack for low clearance.
at the same time we are replacing the anti vibration pads
I m more concerned in installing the sound enclosure as this will bring to the max high in the bilge
we are trying to reduce the noise and vibration at anchor !

Yep, getting a paper clip up there will be no problem!
