We just spent our first weekend out in our 260DA and had a blast out at Caladesi Island. I can't wait till we plan our next trip. Met alot of nice people out there and just had a good ole time.

Glad to hear you had a great time.. People are super cool there. It's like getting away from it all but not going too far...

I know what you mean and I just had my GPS installed on Friday. If I didn't have it installed it would have been tough to get back there, because it was serious low tide when I headed there.

It's easy to get in there. Scary, but easy. You don't need a GPS for that. Here are the directions from their website:
"From Channel marker #14, just west of Dunedin Causeway Bridge, take an approximately 212-degree heading on your compass for approximately 1-mile. Follow the channel markers into Caladesi Island State Park marina."

If you deviate from the compass heading, you are liable to ground. If you try to take a shortcut, and bypass any channels, you are liable to ground. Also, most of the area near the island is designated as non-combustion engine only, so if you are outside the channel, not only will you ground, but you will get a ticket.

On low tides, I go barely more than idle out there. On high tides, I can go on plane. But, I draw 4 feet of water, so it is very scary on low tide.

Caladesi is a great place to overnight. After all the daytrippers go home, it's like having your own island. On a typical weekend, there's maybe 20 boats out there.

It really is hard to beat.

It sure is. One time we were the only ones there (it was a Monday nite).. It was very romantic. Was told once that dolphin were back there jumping over the docks chasing baitfish. Wish I could have seen that..
