Caladesi Island getaway

David, Got any pictures? Looks like a neat place.

caladesi is just one of the nice islands..

Egmont Key is a much better island imo. They have abandon buildings from cortez, tons of trails, a million turtles just walking around everywhere, ITs more private on the island itself, theres a nice lighthouse, and to top it off there is sunkin ruins that you can snorkel over and check out..

then theres anclot key :havent been there yet

Skell key : huge bird reserve

Honeymoon Island.. There are tons of places that i cant even remember or havent even been to..

Caladesi is a controlled island, Meaning that there are stores, bathrooms, food, people every where, no privacy, but its nice! And they have a marina. Be warned that there is some pieces of exposed pipe in some places with no bumpers on it and its just below eye levl, so when you pull in look out!

Caladesi is a great place if you want shore power or water. I have never had a privacyy problem there, and it's usually not too crowded.

I can't easily go to some of those other places in my boat. I could anchor out and dinghy in, but I'm not a real big fan of leaving my boat anchored out and unattended.

If i had a bigger boat i think i would feel the same way.

Are there sheltered picnic tables there like at a Park?

Great pictures. Thanks for posting them. Sure looks nice.

Sorry, been gone awhile. There are a couple of shelters near the marina with picnic tables under them.

They also have grills and such by the shelters. There is also a brick bonfire pit near the shelters by the marina. In the late/winter, it is pretty cool to go over there, camp overnight on the boat, and go make smores and stuff over the fire pit. Makes you feel, if even only for an hour or two, almost like we have seasons.

Very cool. To band my wife's view on camping is staying at a cheap hotel. (not even a motel).

I need to win the lottery so we can get that boat upgrade sooner.

Nice thing about caladesi is spending the night. Once the rangers and the folks who come out by ferry leave it's a reall nice place to be.

i hope to be out there over the fall, but i have a few transmission problems to fix first. i'm afraid i'll be on the hard for about a month.

I think we might be heading to Caladesi on Saturday and spending the night. We did spend the weekend there about a month ago and had a blast. I'm looking forward to doing it again this weekend.
Caladesi is a very peaceful island and you feel like your far away from reality, even though your just a few miles away.

anyone one up for a caladesi getaway?

Count me in...

Caladesi Island is ranked as the NUMBER 2 BEACH IN THE COUNTRY- we are so fortunate to have this in our backyard- don't take it for granted!

Ylwjacket-
You've got a 450- so I assume you've got the same problem as me- there's not many slips for larger boats. My 390's 14' beam means I have to hope that one of the T-dock ends is open, most of the slips are not wide enough although I did find a couple at the end of the first dock. I asked the rangers if they knew which slips were wide enough but they couldn't tell me. I hesitate to go there on a busy Saturday for fear of not being able to get a slip when I get there. Any suggestions?

BTW- for anyone who hasn't been there it's well known that there is no place on earth that has more no-see-ums than Caladesi in the summer. Can't tell you how many people have come to our boat for some "OFF". Cover with bug spray, or spend the hour or two before sunset in the cabin. There's also a kayak trail (rentals available) cut through the mangroves(need a decent tide).

I have the same problem. Also, I take 2 T-dock spots when I'm there due to my length.

There were a few slips I could squeeze into with my 380, but I don't think I would try it with the 450.

I call ahead early in the day to see if there are any T-slips open. If so, I motor over early, pay the fees, hang the reserved signs on the docks, then head home to get the crew, before going back over for the night. It's a pain, but the best you can do.

I miss the old days when they took reservations, that's for sure.
