All,
I am looking to replace the old box tv/vcr combo in the cabin. I would like to remove the roll out tray as well and possibly put in a collapsible rotating mount. I was thinking I could just partially fill the old cutout with a piece of ply would and attach the mount. The local electronics shop said I should get quite a few digital channels if I plug an HD TV into the antennae on the arch. Was going to do 24 or 28 inch.

I would love to hear thoughts and suggestions. Will I actually get stations? Any simpler solutions? What size tv is done traditionally? I am not a handy man by any means. Thanks. Pics would be great as well.

I get around 20 channels on Lake Norman using the standard glomax antenna....the closer you are to charlotte the better the signal strength...if you are on the northern part of the lake around the state park you probably will not get any channels to come in due to the distance....I installed a 28" TV by mounting the stand of the TV on the turntable....we can watch the TV from the V berth bed or the couch...the TV overhangs the opening in the cabinets some but we don't mind that....it does not interfere with anything...

How did you mount it secure enough that it doesn't fall off in rough water? Someone at the dock also suggested this to me? I like that simple solution, but am worried that it could break lose and crash to the ground? Any pics? And thanks as always for the reply!

At first I thought I would need a restraint so I used a simple bungee cord.....but I later discovered the TV will stay retracted even while running on plane so no need for the bungee cord.....I installed a DVD player behind the TV....and the space behind the TV is great for storing things like bags of chips...

I to have a TV mounted to the turn table as well. its a Vizio, and allows the shelft to still LOCK like factory, so when locked, the TV is suported by the wall on both side of the hole, tv over hangs by about 1 inch on each side. its a 19 inch TV. (Vizio M190va) that style tv stnad works well for factory table.

SO when stored the TV is usable, and cant move around. but unlock the tray using factory latch, and can pull it out and then turn it to the V birth, or the rear of cabin.

Cliff,
picked up my tv. I went with a 24 inch. Did you screw the base of the tv through the base of the retractable stand or just rest on top and retract it? Thanks.

I'm experimenting with a tv mount. Here's a full motion wall mount on the original slider. The depth fits perfectly. I can see making the sliding box into a cabinet. The tv will stay in place using a bungee(see the eyehook on top).

I use stainless steel nuts and bolts to attach the TV stand to the original turn table so the TV can swivel.....

I am trying to change my tv over and this sounds like a good plan. Can you send a pic of your new set up?

I did something similar using stuff laying around in the garage. I had an old 24" monitor, bought a tuner, antenna and a TV mount from Amazon. Total cost $54.

It needed to be light in order to keep using the original turn table but strong enough to support the weight during a passing wake while on the hook. I distributed the fastening points so there wouldn't be too much weight on any one fastener. The 2x6 was strong enough to hold the mounting bracket and the angle iron gave it incredible strength.

The turntable functions exactly the same and locks closed. It's not the prettiest but totally functional and now I'm watching football on the boat for free.
