Cabin Door

We're new to boating in that this is only our second season & definitely new to forums. We own a 2004 260 Sun Dancer & we aren't able to lock the hatch door from inside the lower cabin. Works fine from the outside. Any suggestions? :?

Thank you!

I'll check mine the next time I go to the boat but I do remember them telling me at delivery that there is a way to set the lock from the outside using the key so you can't lock the inside. As I recall this was a safety measure to keep kids from locking themselves in the cabin.

If it's like my 310DA, the key has three positions: unlocked, unlocked but inside lock enabled, and locked from the outside. You should feel a detent somewhere between unlocked and locked. Take the key out then, and the inside slider should be free to move.

Thank you for the suggestion. We'll give it a whirl next time at the lake. It was working & don't know what we did otherwise. Perhaps it was as you mentioned. My lovingly...forgiving...compassionate bride simply tells me it's an operator error based on excess consumption. Feel like ole Rodney Dangerfield (sp) at times.

Thanks again!

Consumption

First Born

Have to be careful when not in our marina. The first reason is common sense & the second...the local Water Sheriff "lives" in our marina. :(

Thanks for your concern & have a nice day.

Had the same problem. The slide button was hard to push, but it worked!

What RonF said, I have tried to get my first mate to turn the key right for 6 years. She still doesn't unlock it correctly to allow locking from the inside.

Great that is why my brand new lock "didn't work" either. I guess child safety so they cannot lock themselves in there.

On my 04 260DA there was a black plastic slide next to the handle on the inside. Push it up/down to lock or unlock.

The problem is that the slide won't move up or down like it did in the past.

That is the same problem I have on a BRAND NEW lock installed just a week ago. Since this lock is new there must be three settings with the key from the outside: "lock", "open" and "open inside slide enabled"
This could be child safety so they don't inadvertendly lock themselves and the keys inside the boat. I will try it this weekend and report the results.

Okay folks, I went crazy figuring this out, but I finally got it...Without standing in front of the door, I will try to describe what I found.

When you look at the key position (approaching the door from the outside) when it is in the locked position, the key will be horizontal (or parallel to the water). When you insert your key you turn it clockwise (to vertical position) to unlock it. If you pull the key out in this position then,
HERE is the catch! This position allows you to open the door and does NOT allow you to lock it from the inside.
If you unlock the door, turning the key vertical, THEN turn it back to horizontal, it will be unlocked, but now you CAN lock the door from the inside. Keep your keys in your pocket in this mode!!!!!

I hope this makes sense :smt101

boatrboy described it perfectly. I was at the boat yesterday and I checked it out too and that is exactly how it works. The only thing I will add is if you pull the key out when in the vertical position that is what activates the child lock feature and that is what prevents you from being able to lock the door from the inside. Also of note is there is a "pictorial" on my lock that shows this feature and how to use it.

Thanks to everyone. This exchange has been most informative & will be shared with other Sea Ray owners at our marina. You guys are the best! Thank again for tolerating this rookie. :smt038
