Admiral decided to go with antique holly Plasteak vinyl . Pulled the carpet up which wasn't to bad a job. Now overall the condition of the floor was good but not very levels. My boat is located 2 hours away and considering the cost of the flooring I decided to pay someone to do the job. Plasteak's recommended installer is going to put in a 1/2" sub floor he said once he would grind and sand and level the floor its a lot quicker and easier. It will help stiffen the floor even more then it is now plus the sub floor will deaden noise the the carpet use to. He also said that gluing the sub floor to the fiber glass floor is more stable then trying to glue the vinyl floor directly to the glass floor which will transfer any bumps through the vinyl.

Your installer clearly prefers woodworking to leveling/sanding :). Seems like the actual time required to cut out that plywood would be more than simply leveling the existing floor? I leveled a floor for tile once (not on a boat) and it was very easy. Pour it on and....some mild sanding after it dries.

Is that marine grade plywood your installer is using? Looks like maple??? I would not want non-marine plywood under my cabin floor. But maybe I'm seeing this wrong...

Not sure if the leveling compound you used would work well on fiber glass everyone I talked to recommended using bondo. Tiles does not transfer bumps like vinyl flooring plus I'm better sure your house didn't have all the curves like a boat does.

One step closer the sub floor is flat no more bumps. Hard to tell in the picture but the sub fits perfect.

How did he template the subfloor? Did he use the old carpet as an outline?

That's beautiful! BTW, if you or your installer would be willing to send me a paper or plastic template, I would happily make it worth your while!
