Took my kids and a couple of their friends to Cabbage Key for a couple days over spring break. Rented a cottage on the island that had its own dock. Had a blast, the cottage was great. Kids slept and talked there I slept in peace and quiet on the boat.

The 265 docked at the cottage with one of the commercial boats coming the channel:

A picture of the cottage from the dock, the cottage was much nicer inside than it looked from the outside:

This is the "Cheeseburger in Paradise" restaurant made famous by Jimmy Buffet.

Did you enjoy the primitive lodging? Did you get a chance to explore some of the great water and beaches around Captiva and Gaspirilla?

These are certainly some of favorite areas to boat! Thanks for posting the pics!

There was nothing primitive about the lodging, very nice but not fancy. Good food in the restaraunt, didn't get in as much beach time as we wanted due to weather and boat issues the first day of our trip. This is about 20 miles north of Ft. Myers Florida.

I will be there May 19th. It is one of my favorite places to stop when traveling by boat on the West Coast of Florida. The picture in my avatar was taken there a few years back...it really is paradise.

Cheeseburgers are only made well-done. You must want to be there for the ambiance, which is plenty.

We have been there many many times. It is one of my favorite day trips. You got to love the cheeseburger in paradise.

Did you take the hike to the other side of the island?

100,000 on the walls at any moment in time. They rotate it every three years.
My 25th anniversary dollar is in the tarpon's mouth. Well, before they rotated.

Nice pictures. The locals all claim that this is Jimmy Buffet's namesake for his song. I believe that's what good stories are all about. The real inspiration for the song is located a little further south.

This is a favorite area for our family. Cayo Costa is right next door. It makes for a nice anchorage this time of year.

Just got back from Cabbage Key. Took the kids and mother in-law. Only problem was Otters took part of our dinner out of the cooler. I guess they tend to do this because we were warned as soon as we docked. I have alot of great pictures

Thanks for the photos and trip report. We were there about a week ago. The Mahi is wonderful. Cabbage Key is a 45 minute boat ride from us.

There's a two story house in your last pic. That house used to belong to my best friends grandfather while we were kids. We stayed there every year for our spring breaks during high school.

We've been staying there for years. It was damaged pretty bad a few years back with all the hurricnases but it's been totally redone. It's a great place for 6-8 people to stay and party. The dock holds 3-4 boats depending on their size. Very affordable also.

When we stayed there it was much more rustic. We'd drive a 22' Aquasport over filled with beer hidden in our bags. Then it was drink beer, fish and swim for week.
